Neil Delamare

Kildare Arts Service is excited to announce that Neil Delamare will MC this year's Platform III Oxegen Battle of the Bands Final to be held in Time Venue Naas this Thursday June 5th. Due to unforeseen circumstance PJ Gallagher had to step down for this year's competition leaving the final in Neil's very capable hands. Fresh from the Cat Laughs Festival in Kilkenny, Neil's appearance promises to make this an event not to be missed. Neil is also basking in the success of a recent sell out run in Vicar Street. The combination of one of Ireland's top comedians and the cream of Kildare's music talent ensures that this Thursday June 5th in Time: Venue is a night not to be missed.

This year, five bands have been chosen to compete in Time for a coveted spot on the new band stage at Oxegen this summer. Bright Light Fiasco, Lines Drawing Circles, Mary Bellos and Schmackey and the Salads and The Kill City Defectors are due to take to the stage and Thursday evening.

Doors open at 8:30 and the first band is due to take the stage at 9pm. Tickets €14 at the door.

Kildare County Council Arts Service, in partnership with MCD promotions, is hugely excited about the success of our Battle of the Bands competition. Kicking-off at Oxegen 07, this competition offers the cream of Kildare’s young musical talent a unique opportunity to battle it out live for a coveted spot on the new band stage at Oxegen. All applications are assessed and a shortlist is compiled. Short-listed artists are invited to perform at a live grand final where a panel of judges comprising industry professionals will decide which lucky bands will go forward to play at Oxegen.

The new band stage at Oxegen is the place to spot up and coming talent, in previous years artists such as Kate Nash, The Go Team, Super Furry Animals, The Magic Numbers, Editors, The Killers, Razorlight and The Fratellis, have taken their first steps to stardom on this very stage. The opportunity to play at Oxegen gives bands the invaluable experience of playing at one of the most regarded music festivals in Europe while exposing them to a professional environment which provides a platform on which they can be seen and heard by some of the most influential people in the music industry.

Kildare County Council Arts Service is committed to providing the very best opportunities to local musicians possible; this collaboration with Oxegen is testament to this commitment. The continuing development of the recording suite in Leixlip Library also highlights our eagerness to support local musical talent.
