Kildare County Council Kildare, in association with MCD present:

Platform V. Oxegen Battle of the Bands 2010.

Thecompetition is open to all unsigned solo artists and bands with a majority of members from Co. Kildare, over the age of 17. The closing date for applications is this Friday 30th April at 5pm.

The prize for two lucky performers/ bands is a much sought after slot on the New Band Stage at OXEGEN 2010, which takes place in Punchestown Racecourse, Naas, Co Kildare, from Friday 9th until Sunday 11th July 2010.

Competition partner MCD are delighted to be involved with this project for the last three years. It is a one of a number of locally based initiatives they are involved in and it reflects their ongoing commitment to the local community.

According to Eoghan Doyle, Kildare Assistant County Arts Officer: “The applications are coming in thick and fast! The standard is already really high and we are looking forward to a great competition this year. It’s going to be really hard to pick just 2 bands to go to Oxegen this year. “

So, if you think you are the next Rory Gallagher or your band are as good as Lizzy download the application form below and be in with the chance to play alongside some of the world’s biggest acts like  Eminem, Arcade Fire and Kasabian.

Or if you are interested in hearing the next big thing make sure to get to the Phoenix Music Venue www.phoenixkildare.com on May 21st and 28th for the Semi’s and on June 18th for the Grand Final! Tickets are only €10 and available on the night.

Now in it’s 4th year! The competition has been a launch pad for some upcoming new music talent in Ireland. Previous winners of the competition have included “Miracle Bell” , “Kill City Defectors” and nominated for Meteor’s most promising new artist of 2010 “Seven Days”

According to Assistant County Arts Officer, Eoghan Doyle ‘The Phoenix Music Venue caters to new and emerging bands and will be an ideal venue to host the 2010 competition. I’m really looking forward to the competition and can’t wait to see Kildare bands battle it out on the stage for a coveted slot at Oxegen 2010.’

Semi finals will take place in The Phoenix Music Venue on Friday 21st and Friday 28th of May.

Successful bands will then go on to battle it out on Friday June 18th in The Phoenix Music Venue, Kildare town, Co. Kildare. www.phoenixkildare.com

The two successful musicians / bands from the final will receive a slot on the new band stage at Oxegen and a 3 day recording opportunity with Kildare County Council.

Tickets for the Battle of the Bands competition are €10 and available from The Phoenix Music Venue and on the night.
 
According to County Arts Officer, Lucina Russell, ’this project was negotiated by Kildare County Council and Naas Town Council, with MCD, organisers of Oxegen.  Already, it has generated great excitement among emerging bands in the county.  It is a great way for MCD to acknowledge the local support for the Oxegen festival.

Closing date for applications is 5pm, Friday 30th April 2010.
