Time: 7.45pm

Maynooth Film for All: Film Club’s next screening is the Italian film Quiet Chaos on Wednesday 31st March at 7.45pm in JHL2 NUI Maynooth.

Pietro, the main character in Director Antonello Grimaldi's slice-of-life drama Quiet Chaos, watches his life fall to pieces when his wife unexpectedly dies as the result of a freak fall. Left with a young daughter, Claudia, Pietro must find a way to cope with his sudden and unexpected role as a single parent.

Emotionally unable to come to grips with his wife’s death, Pietro drops out of the office rat race and spends his days waiting for his daughter outside her school, where he observes his own life in relation to a narrowly defined universe.

This is the ‘quiet chaos’ of the title, reflecting Pietro’s personal withdrawal and inability to connect with his emotions and mourn the loss of his wife.

There are cross-cuts to dinner parties, flashbacks to Venice, but the heart of the story is in simple everyday scenes with his 10-year-old daughter. There is a beautiful sense of her minding him more than he minding her, through her innocent strength he recovers his.

Keep a look out for Roman Polanski in a cameo role as one of Pietro’s work colleagues. Also of note is the film’s finely balanced music track, which incorporates songs by Radiohead and Rufus Wainwright.

Movies are screened in JHL2 lecture hall in the John Hume building, North Campus, NUIM. The programme starts at 7.45pm with an introduction from Dr Denis Condon NUIM. The featured film then begins at 8.00pm.
