NEW FILM COMMISSIONS AWARDED IN KILDARE

Following on from 'All About Eva', a feature film shot on location in Athy, Co Kildare in May 2014, Kildare County Council is pleased to announce that two new film commissions have been awarded.

According to Arts Officer for Kildare County Council, Lucina Russell, ''We are delighted to support these two diverse, but equally exciting film projects.  In the meantime, we are continuing our promotional work on 'All About Eva''.  We hope that 'Eva' will be premiered at a film festival in 2015. We had an overwhelmingly positive response to our recent work to develop film in the county.  As a result, there are a number of other film initiatives in the pipe line, so watch this space !'

 talker

'Talker', written by Adam Cullen is an animated short film. Adam is a writer, producer, composer and comedian from Naas, Co Kildare.  Talker is set in the conditions of a silent movie and the story begins with the birth of a girl who has the ability to speak ‘out loud’. She is shunned by her family and community and raised by a travelling group of mime artists.

The creative team includes award-winning artists such as Art Director Stephen McNally (Forgot, Meanwhile), Previs artist and animator Brendan Carroll (The Monk and the Monkey,Dreamworks) and Naas-born Owen Morrison (Lifeboat Luke, Schrödinger’s Cat and the Raiders of the Lost Quark) who will be the chief animator for the film. The film will be completed by late October 2015 and will feature an original score by Adam Cullen.

 Gridlock

'Gridlock' was written by Darach Mc Garrigle and Ian Hunt Duffy.  It is a short thriller set amidst the chaos of an intense traffic jam. When a little girl goes missing from one of the cars, her father forms a desperate search party to find her, and soon everyone is a suspect.

The film will be produced by Simon Doyle and Fail Safe Films, an award-winning Production Company based in Dublin. “It’s a great story and quite ambitious for a short film”, says Simon. “We’re delighted to get the commission and support from Kildare County Council.”

Darach McGarrigle is a screenwriter based in Dublin, who previously wrote the RTÉ Storyland series ‘Talk It Out’, starring Peter Coonan and Aoibhinn McGinnity from ‘Love/Hate’.

Gridlock will be directed by Ian Hunt Duffy, a director at Fail Safe Films. “Both Darach and myself are huge fans of thrillers so we’re really looking forward to making Gridlock. It’s essentially a ‘whodunnit’ mystery, so should be an exciting film.

‘Gridlock’ will be shot on location in North Co. Kildare in the summer of 2015.

The film commissions are funded under the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government  Per Cent for Art scheme for Castlewarden to Ballygoran Water Supply project.  Each film will receive an award of €18,000.
