Opening of Exhibition with selected artists and the curatorial team on:

Friday 25^th at 7.30pm at the McKenna Gallery, Riverbank Arts Centre, Newbridge, Co. Kildare.

Pat Byrne of the curatorial team and Michael Jacob, botanist and wildlife enthusiast will launch the exhibition.

 

“SECOND HARVEST”
An exhibition of Kildare artists inspired by the Peat land Landscape.

 

Featuring the work of Monica de Bath, Pamela de Bri, Fiona Marron, Annette McCormack, Eileen Keane, Eamonn Keenan, Brian O'Loughlin and Conor Lane.

Curated by members of Newbridge Local History Group.

Irish Bog lands are a significant and unique component of the environment of Ireland, and they have played a major role in the development of our art, our culture and our customs. Peat lands are places of solitude, reflection and retreat; places of sanctuary for endangered ecosystems; and places of employment.

 

Irish bog lands have played a significant role in the development of our culture and customs. As a valuable natural resource, managing and harvesting the bog has been an essential pursuit for generations of our people.

 

“Second Harvest” is an artistic harvest gleaned from these unique habitats.
This exhibition is a glimpse at how local Kildare artists, in their artistic harvest of the bog, have found inspiration to explore their sense of place, their relationship with nature and with the environment that sustains us.

 

The exhibitors use a wide variety of techniques and explore aspects of the bog as a raw material, as a workplace and as an inspiration.

This is a truly local Kildare project, both in terms of the participating artists and the community based team appointed as the curating committee, part of an engagement between The Creative Well and Newbridge Local History Group

 

This exhibition is Part of the Creative Well's 2017 'This Must be the Place' Arts and Wellbeing residency at Riverbank Arts Centre.

The Creative Well is an arts and wellbeing programme of Kildare County Council Arts Service.  We advocate and promote wellbeing through the participation in arts processes and provide space and place throughout Co. Kildare for people to engage with their own creativity.

 

The Creative Well has partnered with Riverbank Arts Centre since 2015 to explore how the Gallery space can be used as a place not only for exhibition but for discussion, making and creating.
