Semi finalists for Oxegen 2009 Battle of the Bands announced

Kildare County Council Kildare, in association with MCD, Naas Town Council, X Music and the Late Lounge officially launched the Oxegen 2009 battle of the bands competition last Saturday 2nd May 2009.

The launch took place in The Late Lounge, the Dew Drop Inn, Kill. Previous winners, “The Greatest Bear”, “Miracle Bell” and “Kill City Defectors” performed to a packed venue on the night. Excitement and anticipation grew as at the end of the night semi finalists for this year’s competition were announced.

Bands shorlisted on the night were:

Semi Final 1 – Friday 15th May 2009, The Late Lounge, Dew Drop Inn
Colin Scallan
I Phoenix
Melophobia
Nova Static
The Resistance
The Ragmen

Semi Final 2 – Saturday 16th May 2009, The Late Lounge, Dew Drop Inn 
Box Social
Chaperones
The J-Walkers
Ringleader
Reemo
Seven Days

This years shortlist sees bands coming from all over County Kildare, including, Naas, Straffan, Kildare town, Athy, Prosperous, Kilcullen, Sallins, The Curragh, Leixlip, Celbridge and Clane.

3 bands from each night will then go on to battle it out on Friday June 19th in the Late Lounge in the grand final.

Assistant County Arts Officer, Eoghan Doyle was at the launch gig “The competition this year is set to be fierce, as the standard of applications for the competition was really high. I would like to congratulate all of the short listed bands on getting this far and I can’t wait to hear them perform live. If it’s anything like tonight we will be in for a really good show.”

The two successful musicians / bands from the grand final will receive a slot on the new band stage at Oxegen and a 3 day recording opportunity with Kildare County Council.

Tickets for the Semi Finals and the Grand Final are €10 and available from the Late Lounge.
