Kildare County Council is aware that many tenants may be affected by the recent employment losses and changes to working conditions adversely impacting household incomes. Differential rents are calculated on the basis of household income, consequently if your primary income has now reduced so too will your rent.
In order to have your rent re-assessed a Rent Review Form should be completed. Download and complete the form here http://kildare.ie/countycouncil/housing/HousingRents/ and email or post to the address below. You are also required to submit a letter from your employer confirming your employment status due to COVID-19. Rent reviews will be completed as soon as possible and revised rents will be backdated to the date your employment ceased. Please note it is each tenant’s responsibility to provide accurate information. All information will be validated and verified with the Department of Social Welfare.

In summary, an estimate of differential rent will be calculated in accordance with the following terms and conditions:
If you are the primary earner in your household and are now eligible for COVID-19 Pandemic Unemployment Payment, your base rent will be €29 per week.
If you are not the primary earner in the house and have been made redundant, it is unlikely there will be a change in rent as you would already have been calculated as a subsidiary earner for which a €10 charge applied.
Those in receipt of Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) who are eligible for this COVID-19 payment will also have their differential rent reviewed as above. However, if you are also paying a top up you are advised to discuss that payment directly with your landlord.
