Youth Theatres

Facilitators of Kildare Youth Theatre and Griese Youth Theatre are leading online workshops for the young members of their groups.  Acknowledging how stressful the situation may be for some young people,  Griese Youth Theatre members are embracing guided meditation via Zoom

Cruinniu na nOg

Kildare's Creative Ireland team are preparing for an online presentation of Cruinniu na nOg on Saturday June 13th, with children and young people working from their own homes to present work collectively through video, photography and live recordings

Projects include

  • Griese Youth Theatre 'Let's Keep the Ball Rolling', a project initially inspired by the challenges of the Gordon Bennett car race in 1903, and now the COVID crisis, young people will work remotely to create a theatrical piece for film, using mood boxes, isolation moments and text
  • Textile artist Aideen Cross is working remotely with 20 children and young people from the Creative Sewing group in Rathangan to create a tapestry project on the theme 'Together with Nature'. It is hoped that the work will be stitched together for display, post COVID19 restrictions
  • 'Hold Your Horses' is a visual arts project, led by Audrey Walsh, drawing on the Curragh's relationship with the horse and using found and recycled materials and decorated with local flowers. Directed by Audrey, the participants will work from home to create artworks
  • Traditional Song for Children. Traditional singer Aileen Lambert will deliver an online workshop for children on 'The Song of Bridget's Cloak'
  • 'It's Time to Sign' is an interactive online workshop for children and young people, led by members of the Athy Sing and Sign Club.  They will create fun resources to teach sign language around the alphabet, greetings and introductions, family and friends and colours and numbers.
  • 'Kildare Speaks' Podcast, is led by Eoghan Burke (Fia Rua) and young members of Clane Tennis Club, sharing their experiences both in and outside of the Club.

Colouring Kildare heritage

Follow Rua, the Library Reading Champion, on his travels around some of Kildare heritage sites and colour as you go.  KCC has prepared a colouring book which features heritage sites in the County.

Medieval walled Town workbook

The Walled Towns of Ireland Childrens Booklet Discover the Walled Towns of Ireland in this booklet specially designed for primary school children. Find the towns, meet the people who lived there, do a word search, build your own Walled Town and do the quiz.

Story Time & Crafts

Art classes for children and adults with Florence and Milly.

Kildare Library staff have been producing and posting story time sessions for our social media platforms with daily events on the library Facebook page at 2pm and 2.30pm on the library Instagram page.

Kildare Library Service is collaborating with Riverbank Arts Centre in an online event with Sarah Crossan, Laureate na nÓg on National Poetry Day, April 30th. The event will take place on the Laureate na nÓg Instagram page.

Online Events at the Libraries

As part of the STEAM programme Kildare Libraries have organised online Coding workshops for teens and a series of online environmental workshops for children for Biodiversity Week.

As part of the Toys, Technology and Training (TTT) Programme 2020, which supports children and adults with learning difficulties, disabilities or more significant needs, facilitators have been using mixed media to deliver their talks/ workshops via our social media platforms.

These include an informative session from Dyspraxia/ DCD Ireland on 'Primary School and Dyspraxia', Behavioural Therapy presentations by Audrey Cully on ASD and Visual Strategies & Self-Management. A Webinar series from CAINT speech and language therapy featuring an Introduction to language development, Prelinguistic skills, promoting play and language development. There will also be an upcoming talk on AHD by ADHD Ireland, and further online sessions on various topics to follow.
