Rental Accommodation / Social Leasing

Kildare County Council is seeking expressions of interest from landlords who have rental properties for housing purposes available for periods between 4 years and 15 years in the county of Kildare under the Rental Accommodation Scheme (RAS).

RAS is a scheme seeking to provide additional good quality accommodation for eligible persons assessed by the housing authority as having long term housing need.  All types of properties will be considered.

Landlords must meet the following criteria to qualify for this scheme:

  • Provide good quality accommodation, which is subject to an inspection by the HSE, Environmental Health Office;
  • Tax Compliant;
  • Property and tenant registered with the Private Residential Tenancies Board (PRTB).
  • House insurance for the property leased to the housing authority.
  • Provision of a BER (Building Energy Rating) Certificate.

What benefit is it to landlords to engage in this scheme?

  • Guaranteed monthly income for landlord whether property is occupied or vacant;
  • Housing authority act as agent and nominate tenants that have been interviewed and vetted.  The landlord saves on the expense of advertising, engaging with agents for a fee and/or showing the property;
  • Rent paid directly by local authority to landlord at the end of each month.
