Official Launch of KCC Free WiFi – Emily Square, Athy on Thursday 1st September 2016 at 12 noon by Councillor Aoife Breslin (Cathaoirleach)
Kildare County Council will officially launch it’s new KCC Free WiFi service at Emily Square in Athy on Thursday 1st September 2016 at 12 noon. This new service is being introduced on a pilot basis as an enhancement to the general public services available at Emily Square.
The WiFi coverage caters for Emily Square, and the area between the Branch Library and the bank of the River Barrow, adjacent to the Courthouse. It has a range of up to 200 metres from the front of Heritage Centre building at Emily Square. This service is expected to be of great benefit to the citizens of Athy, as well as visiting business people and tourists.
570 unique devices have connected to the service since it went live on 20th July last.
The Council hopes to extend the WiFi service to the general area of the Dominican Church on the southern side of the river when the Library Service relocates to new premises during 2017.
It is expected that this pilot model will be developed and repeated in other towns throughout County Kildare.
