What is a Water butt?

A water butt is a barrel-like tank that can collect rainwater from your roof drainpipes after rain.  The rainwater can then be used for watering plants in your home and garden.

A water butt has a capacity of about 190 litres and is made from 100% recycled plastic.  It fits a standard 68 millimetre (mm)- round and 65mm-square plastic downpipe.  Water butts are designed so that they will not overflow.

Note:  A water butt is not recommended for use with cast iron downpipes.

How to buy a Water butt and where to collect it?

Water butts cost €45 (includes barrel, base, lid, downpipe connector fittings and tap fitting).  Payment can be made online at the link above or alternatively at the Finance Cash Office, Kildare County Council, Level 2, Aras Cill Dara, Naas.

Please note that water butts cannot be delivered.  They can only be collected at the Kildare County Council Waterworks Office,  c/o The Machinery Yard, Newbridge.  Please phone 045-431364 to arrange collection.  You must produce your receipt when collecting your water butt. 

Note:  The Waterworks Office is located across from Newbridge Silverware on the left hand side of the entrance road into the Whitewater Shopping Centre Multi-Storey Car Park.

What do I need to use to use this service?

You will need a valid Visa/Delta, Mastercard or Laser Card

How to use this service

If you wish to purchase a water butt click on the link and enter the details into the boxes provided.  A maximum of 4 water butts may be paid for at one time.   Please also provide an email address if you would like a copy of the receipt emailed to you. The total due will be displayed when you click Next.  You will then be prompted for your card details in order to process payment.  Please note that your receipt must be produced in order to collect your water butt.

What about privacy and security?

All financial transactions are processed by Realex, a third party Internet financial service which provides a secure environment to protect your transactions.  Your credit/debit card information is not transmitted outside the secure site.
