Kildare County Development Plan 2017-2023

Kildare County Council, in consultation with the community and other stakeholders, is making a new County Development Plan that will shape the future growth of Kildare over the next 6 years and beyond. The review commenced on Thursday the 2nd of April 2015 and will take up to 2 years to complete, concluding with the publication of the Kildare Development Plan 2017-2023.

The County Development Plan is adopted by the Councillors. It will include a written statement and maps that will set out the strategic spatial vision and future direction for Kildare over a six year period up to 2023 and into the future.

The review presents an opportunity to shape the future growth of Kildare by building on our strategic advantage as a county and our previous successes. The new County Development Plan will establish the planning context to ensure that we maximise the strengths of our citizens, communities, built and natural heritage, infrastructure, economy and tourism to their full potential.

Your input matters. This is your community and your county. The new County Development Plan will set the framework for the decisions that will impact on your future for years to come.

Outline of Development Plan Stages

The process of making the Development Plan is divided into three distinct stages:

  1. Pre-draft County Development Plan consultation,
  2. Preparation of the Draft County Development Plan, and
  3. Making of the County Development Plan.

The Pre draft County Development Plan consultation ended at 4pm on 29th May 2015. During Stage 1, submissions and observations were invited over an eight week period from 2nd April 2015 to 29th May 2015.

The Council carried out the following public consultation:

  • Published an Issues Paper and poster;
  • Developed a dedicated County Development Plan webpage on the Kildare County Council website with provision for online submissions; and
  • Facilitated a Public Information Session in each Municipal District (i.e.Naas, Maynooth, Kildare/Newbridge, Athy and Celbridge/Leixlip).

What is Happening Now?

The issues raised in the submissions and observations received during the pre draft consultation were summarized and compiled in a Chief Executive’s Report.

This report was submitted to the Elected Members for their consideration on the 19 July 2015.
