Contract signing for Naas Library

Kildare County Council has today signed contracts with Deaton Lysaght Architects to provide an Architect led integrated design solution for the conversion of Naas Town Hall into Naas Community Library.

The proposed Naas Town Hall Library project is located at North Main Street, Naas, Co. Kildare.  The subject property is a three storey detached former jail building. Originally built in 1796 by the old Naas Corporation.  In 1904 the building was renovated into a Town Hall. The property is provided with an Italian classical style façade including a feature twin-faced clock.  The building is included on the Record of Protected Structures within the current Kildare County Development Plan. Ref: NS19-047

Deputy Mayor of Naas, Cllr. Billy Hillis welcomed the signing of the contract which represents the first stage of the process to deliver a state of the art library facility for the community of Naas.

Chief Executive of Kildare County Council, Mr. Peter Carey acknowledged the commitment of Kildare County Council in delivering a modern library service throughout the County, noting 'the perfect timing of the appointment of the Design Team for the Naas Project as it coincides with the opening of a flagship library in Athy'.

Mr. Michael Lysaght of Deaton Lysaght Architects commented ‘we look forward to working with Kildare County Council on this rewarding and exciting project’.

The County Librarian, Marian Higgins welcomed the exciting development of this historic building as a cultural, artistic and community hub that will greatly enhance library services offered in Naas in line with the Library Services Development Plan 2015-2019, Ideas Realised: Spreading the Word.
