Naas Shopping Centre Fire

Kildare Fire Service was alerted to a fire in the partially constructed Naas Shopping Centre at approximately 21.15 hrs last night (13 July 2017).  Crews from Naas and Newbridge Stations responded to the scene.  On arrival they were faced with large amounts of thick black smoke issuing from the building.  The crews approached the building from a number of directions but due to the high temperatures, the nature of the smoke and the assessment of the building initial firefighting was from a defensive position outside the building.  As conditions improved firefighting crews were able to enter the building and they located the seat of the fire in the car park section where it appeared that building materials that were stored there were the source of the fire.  Crews worked on site until around 01.00 hrs when the fire was fully extinguished and the scene was handed over to An Garda Síochána.  It is not currently known what caused the building materials to ignite and the scene will be technically examined by An Garda Síochána today.

Kildare County Council can confirm that this site is currently in receivership.
