Bike Week 2011

Kildare County Council is very pleased to announce its’ Programme for Bike Week 2011 which this year runs from the 18th to the 25th of June.

The key events are as follows; On Saturday 18th June, Cycling Ireland will hold a ‘Family Cycling Festival’ in the indoor arena in Punchestown racecourse.  This event will be a great afternoon for all the family and, like most of the events for Bike Week, it will be free of charge.

On the following day, Sunday 19th June in Kildare Town, Newbridge Cycling Club has organised the ‘Paddy Flanagan Memorial Race’ from the Market Square in Kildare.  Naas Cycling Group and Maynooth Cycling Campaign have arranged a number of free cycle tours for adults and families over the two weekends.

Finally, Newbridge Cycling Club will run the Conway Baxter Cycling Academy to pass on biking skills to young people.  The academy, which was named to pay tribute to two of Kildare’s great cyclists Hal Conway and Liam Baxter, will operate not just during Bike Week but throughout the coming year.

This is the second time that Kildare County Council has participated in Bike Week and we are very pleased to be working alongside Maynooth Cycling Campaign, Newbridge Cycling Club, Cycling Ireland and Naas Cycle Group to organise events across the county.  We hope that in future years this programme of events will continue to expand and that participation in the events will grow.  Further details for all of the events taking place during Bike Week are available on  or on
