Christmas Road Safety Campaign

The annual Kildare County Council and Kildare Garda Christmas Road Safety Campaign was launched on Friday 14th December 2012 at 10am. The Deputy Mayor of Kildare, Mark Wall officially launched the campaign from Pipers Hill College, Killashee, Naas.

Deputy County Manager, Michael O' Leary, Senior Officers from An Garda Síochána, Fire, Ambulance and Civil Defence attended the launch, in the presence of teachers and students of the college.

Keynote speakers were:
Kildare's Road Safety Officer, Declan Keogh

Garda Inspector, Jim Doyle and

Drink Aware's Communication Manager, Sonya Sheils.

The theme of this year's Christmas message is 'Think before you Drink'!

Kildare's Road Safety Officer and Kildare Gardai are urging people to 'Think before you drink' before you celebrate the festive season.

Top Tips to enjoy the Christmas and New Year safely:

Appoint a designated driver

Get a lift in a taxi or bus

Ask a family member or friend who is safe and sober to drive

Stay in a friends house or book into a hotel or guest house.


Pedestrians and Cyclists:  

Visibility is the key to survival!

Always wear bright coloured or florescent material such as a high visibility vest while out walking/cycling

Be alert while crossing a road or junction

Use the nearest safe crossing points
