Flood Risk River Barrow - February 2014

Previous flood risk warning remains in place

 

Members of the public are advised that a threat of flooding from the River Barrow continues to exist, potentially affecting Athy and surrounding areas.

 

In particular, the R417 Regional Road from Athy to Carlow, as well as the section of the Monasterevin Road in the vicinity of Athy, is considered vulnerable to flooding.  Motorists should be aware that diversions may be implemented by Gardaí at short notice.

 

Generally, the public should avoid flooded areas and walkways close to watercourses.

 

Home and business owners within flood risk areas are advised to take appropriate precautions and continue to be prepared.

 

The Council’s Crisis Management Team has met again this afternoon and will continue to monitor the situation over the weekend.
