Kerdiffstown Landfill Remediation Project

Kerdiffstown Landfill Remediation Project

The Council’s Chief Executive, Mr. Peter Carey, signed the necessary orders this morning to formally commence the local authority’s intervention at the Kerdiffstown site in accordance with Waste Management legislation.

Therefore, as of 12 noon on Friday, 5 June 2015, Kildare County Council will take over the intervention at the site from the EPA.  It will also commence the process of preparing a planning application to An Bord Pleanála as well as an application to the EPA for a waste licence. Both processes will involve extensive public consultation.

Subject to getting the necessary statutory consents, it is broadly envisaged that the resulting remediation process will likely take nine years.

Representatives from the EPA, Department of Environment, Community and Local Government as well as Councillor Seamie Moore, Mayor of Naas, were in attendance at the formal signing.  A meeting with the Local Community Liaison is now scheduled in order to give them a detailed briefing. Naas Municipal District will be kept fully informed.
