Christmas and New Year Arrangements 2016

Our essential and emergency services will continue in operation all through the Christmas and New Year holiday period, protecting the health and safety of County Kildare's citizens. Some services will be subject to restriction, and details of these appear below.

Offices

Kildare County Council will close at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, 23 December 2016 and will reopen on Wednesday, 28 December 2016 at 9:00 a.m. Closed Monday, 2 January 2017.

Motor Tax

Friday, 23 December                       open from 9:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.

Monday, 26 December                    closed

Tuesday, 27 December                   closed

Wednesday, 28 December             open from 9:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.

Thursday, 29December                 open from 9:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.

Friday, 30 December                       closed to public for annual stock-take

Monday, 2 January                          closed

Tuesday, 3 January                         open from 9:15 am to 3:15 pm, as normal

Planning Applications

The Planning Department of Kildare County Council will close at 12 noon on Friday, 23 December. The Planning Department will be open on Wednesday, 28 December, Thursday, 29 December and Friday, 30 December but
cannot accept planning applications, submissions etc. on these dates. Normal planning services will resume from 9:00 am on Tuesday, 3 January 2017.

Pay Parking

Kildare Town

There will be free parking in Kildare Town from 9:00 a.m. Monday, 19 December 2016 to 5:00 p.m. Monday, 2 January 2017. Illegal parking will continue to be enforced.

Maynooth

Pay parking will be operational over the Christmas and new year period.

Celbridge and Leixlip

There will be free parking in Celbridge and Leixlip from 10:00 a.m. Monday, 19 December 2016 to 4:00 p.m. Monday, 2 January 2017. Illegal parking will continue to be enforced.

 Athy

There will be free parking in Athy from 8:30 a.m. Monday, 5 December 2016 until 6:30 p.m. Monday, 2 January 2017. Illegal parking will continue to be enforced.

Naas

There will be free parking in Naas from 8:30 a.m. Monday, 19 December 2016 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, 2 January 2017 inclusive. Illegal parking will continue to be enforced.

Newbridge- GAA Car Park ONLY

No enforcement of pay parking on Saturday, 17 December, Friday, 23 December and Saturday, 24 December 2016 in the GAA car park ONLY. Illegal parking will continue to be enforced.

Parking Fines

Fines issued on or after Saturday, 24 December 2016 will not be available for payment at the cash office, online or using the automated telephone service until 9:00 a.m.  Wednesday, 28 December 2016.   After this date, payments return to normal.

Libraries

All main branches will close on Friday, 23 December at normal times.

Library headquarters at Riverbank Arts Centre will close on Friday, 23 December at 5:00 p.m. All main branches will re-open on Wednesday, 28 December at their normal times. Library headquarters will re-open on Wednesday, 28 December.

All main branches will close on Friday, 30 December at normal times and will remain closed on Saturday 31 December.

Library headquarters at Riverbank Arts Centre will close on Friday, 30 December at 5:00 p.m. and will remain closed on Saturday 31 December.

All libraries and library headquarters will be closed on Monday, 2 January 2017.

Christmas Recycling

Christmas trees can be left for recycling at the following locations from Tuesday, 3 January to Friday, 20 January 2017:

  • Athy, Meeting Lane
  • Clane, GAA Club
  • Council Depot, Leinster Street, Maynooth
  • Naas, Monread Park
  • Council Nursery, Naas Road, Newbridge

(between Pfizer and Toughers, site can be reached by driving towards Naas)

The two Kildare recycling centres run by A.E.S. will be open for most of the Christmas period. You can recycle extra packaging and a wide range of other items at these facilities.

Don’t forget to recycle all your glass bottles, jars and drink cans at your nearest recycling bank. Please remember not to leave any boxes or bags at these sites and if the banks are full, do not leave any glass or cans around the banks. We will be working to maintain these sites over the Christmas period but need your assistance in doing so.
