Kildare County Council launches contactless debit/credit card parking service in Newbridge Co. Kildare.

Kildare County Council launches contactless debit/credit card parking service in Newbridge Co. Kildare.

(Press Release)

On December 12th Kildare County Council, will be commencing a trial with Card Park Limited and installing 6 card accepting smart parking meters in Newbridge. These new parking meters parking support contactless card payment, debit card, credit card and coin. The 6 locations of the meters will be as follows,

  1. ( Meter number 5 at the Riverbank Art centre and Library)
  2. (Meter number 10 at the old Fás Office Main Street)
  3. (Meter number 14  outside Michael Murphy's Main Street)
  4. (Meter number 15 outside Palace Restaurant Edward Street)
  5. (Meter numbers 36 & 38 in the GAA car park)

The duration of this trial will be for a minimum of 3 months.  Card usage has had a dramatic increase in recent years in retail shops and all other stores. It is believed  that debit card transactions have surpassed cash withdrawals for the first time in Ireland. This has led us to believe that members of the public are carrying less cash and may feel a need for card accepting parking meters.

To use these card accepting parking meters is quite simple. You simply touch the buttons and notify the meters how long you want to stay for. You then are requested to insert coin, touch the contactless reader with your Debit of Credit card or insert your Debit or Credit card. There is no pin required when using your debit card or credit card on these smart parking meters.

Personnel will be on street during the first week of the trail  to assist any customers with paying for parking by card.
