Naas Wins County Award at Bank of Ireland Enterprise Town Awards

Naas was named the winner of the Bank of Ireland National Enterprising Town competition for Kildare last week at an Awards Ceremony in Roscommon.

As a result, Naas can now proudly claim to be “Kildare’s Most Enterprising Town”.

Naas scooped the county award on the night, beating off strong competition from Celbridge, Athy, Maynooth and Kildare Town. Athy and Kildare Town received Merit Awards for the work they carried out in the past year.

Along with the beautiful Galway Crystal trophy, the town is now €3,000 better off for its efforts.

The awards ceremony was attended by business and community activists from all over Ireland along with Bank of Ireland officials, local authority representatives and the Minister for Communications Denis Naughten.

The Naas Town Team – the lead group in the town’s application- was represented by Sonya Kavanagh from Kildare County Council, Allan Shine of North Kildare Chamber, Catherine Whelan of Catherine Whelan and Co. Accountants and Clodagh Hughes, Branch Manager of Bank of Ireland.

Speaking to the assembled media following the awards, a delighted Allan Shine said “To win the county award is great testament of the hard work that takes place in the town. Business and community groups working together for the improvement of the town, has been recognised by this award”.

Kildare County Council and North Kildare Chamber worked together to put forward the 5 towns in Kildare for the Awards. Allan Shine said, “There was great enthusiasm and collaboration with the 5 entries and the future is bright for our towns in Kildare. We were delighted to see that Athy and Kildare Town also got recognised for the hard work that the various groups in the towns do.

“The judges told us tonight that we were very professional in our presentation and that they were extremely impressed with all the town has achieved and our plans for the future.” concluded Shine.
