Love Kildare Photography Competition 2016 winners

600 x 401                                                                                  LOVE Kildare Digital Photography Competition

To highlight Kildare as being ‘a great place to be, work and visit’ Kildare County Council called on members of the public to share with them what they ‘LOVE’ about County Kildare.

24 entries in total were received and judged in terms of originality of the picture idea and how it illustrated the theme of the competition.

With this criteria in mind, 3 winners were announced in August 2016.

In third place - ‘Horse in the Gorse’ by Stephen Maher

Stephen’s entry was captured by him on the drive home through the Curragh after a busy, stressful day.  Stopping off to get a breath of fresh air close to the area locally known as ‘Braveheart Hill’, the horse and jockey appeared at the top of the hill.  As Stephen aptly put it, this photograph, ‘screamed Kildare’.

In second place ‘Drumming Away’ by Sheila Kavanagh

Sheila’s shot was taken at the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Newbridge, County Kildare.  This street photo captures a moment in time with the marching band ‘drumming away’ and the bystanders enjoying the sights and sounds around them.

The Winning Entry - ‘Boat House’ by Pawel Zygmunt

Pawel’s photograph was taken on a ‘nice sunny spring evening in Maynooth, County Kildare’.  The shot captures Carton Boathouse located in the Georgian Park next to the great house that was a seat of the Earls of Kildare and Dukes of Leinster between the 14th and 19th Century.

The winners, with the exception of Sheila Kavanagh who could not attend, were welcomed to September’s Council Meeting at Áras Chill Dara, Naas, and presented by Mayor Ivan Keatley with their prizes.

The winning entries are currently on display, along with a collage of all entries received at Level 1, Áras Chill Dara, Naas, County Kildare.
