Proposed Cemetery Extension & Associated Works at Churchtown ,Athy, Co. Kildare

Notice of Proposed Development by Kildare County Council

Planning and Development Acts 2000 - 2015 (Part XI)

Planning and Development Regulations 2001 to 2015 (Part VIII)


Pursuant to the requirements of the above, notice is hereby given that Kildare County Council proposes to carry out the following development at Churchtown in the townland of Ballyroe (Reban West By), Athy, County Kildare.

  1. 1.  Cemetery extension;
  2. 2.  Communal parking;
  3. 3.  New road layout & pedestrian crossing.

The site area of 0.68 Hectares for the proposed development is located adjacent to the National School and to the north of the existing cemetery.  The cemetery will provide 119 new burial plots.  The development will consist of four main elements – three within the site boundary and the fourth, a new road layout and pedestrian crossing, serving the site.

Plans and particulars of the proposed extension will be available for inspection or purchase at a fee not exceeding the reasonable cost of making a copy during normal opening hours from Tuesday, 21st February, 2017 until Thursday, 6th April, 2017 at the following locations:

  • Environment Department,Kildare County Council, Aras Chill Dara (Level 4) Devoy Park ,Naas, Co Kildare
  • Kildare County Council (Athy Municipal District), Rathstewart, Athy
  • Kildare County Council’s website

Submissions or observations with respect to the proposed development, dealing with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area in which the proposed development would be situated may be made in writing to: Senior Executive Officer, Environment Section, Kildare County Council, Aras Chill Dara, Devoy Park, Naas, Co. Kildare on or before 12.00 noon on Friday, 21st April, 2017. Submissions should be headed - “Extension to Churchtown Cemetery”

All submissions or observations,(including names and addresses of those making submissions/observations),submitted to the Council in regard to this project will form part of the statutory report to be presented to the monthly meeting of the Athy Municipal District Committee (Kildare County Council). Accordingly, they will also be included in the minutes of that meeting and may appear in the public domain.
