Statutory Notice of Intention - Temp. Road Closure - M9 Junction 3

Temporary Closing of Roads

(Evening and Overnight Closures)

Notice of Intention

Roads Act 1993

Kildare County Council gives notice, in accordance with Section 75 of the Roads Act 1993, that it intends to close:

Road to be Closed: Junction 3 (Athy) on the M9 Motorway.

Entry and exit slip roads only and adjoining section of the R448.

Date of closures:

Monday, 28 September 2020 to Friday, 02 October 2020 nightly 8:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m.

and

Monday, 05 October 2020 to Friday, 09 October 2020 nightly 8:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m.

Hours of closure: 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. – nightly Monday to Friday.

The closure is required to facilitate the resurfacing of the pavement on the junction roundabouts only. Note: The M9 motorway will remain open.

Diversion routes: -

Southbound Traffic

Divert from the M9 at Junction 2 (Kilcullen). Traffic should turn right onto the R418, then continue along the R418 to Athy.

Alternatively, for Crookstown-Ballitore area, traffic should turn right onto the R418, then continue along the R418, for approximately 900m, before taking a left turn onto the R448. Continue along the R448 to Crookstown/Ballitore area.

Traffic wishing to travel through M9 Junction 3 (Athy) on the R747 will divert via Crookstown, Thoran Road, Peel Hall Cross and the L8027.

Northbound Traffic

Divert from the M9 at Junction 4 (Castledermot) onto the R448 to Castledermot. Turn left in Castledermot onto the R418 and continue along the R418 to Athy.

Alternatively, for Crookstown-Ballitore area, divert from the M9 at Junction 4 (Castledermot), onto the R448 to Castledermot, continue straight along the R448 to Crookstown/Ballitore area.

Traffic wishing to travel through M9 Junction 3 (Athy) on the R747 will divert via Crookstown, Thoran Road, Peel Hall Cross and the L8027.

Local and emergency access will be allowed at all times. Diversionary routes, as agreed with An Garda Síochána, will be clearly signposted.

Any objections/submissions should be lodged in writing to the Senior Executive Officer, Roads, Transportation & Public Safety, Level 4, Kildare County Council, Áras Chill Dara, Devoy Park, Naas, Co. Kildare or e-mailed to roadssubmissions@kildarecoco.ie by or before 5.00 p.m. on Friday, 28 August 2020.
