Storm Ophelia

Kildare County Council’s Severe Weather Assessment Team met last Friday and  again this morning in conjunction with the gardai and activated the Severe Weather Plan.  Kildare County Council is also in constant contact with the National Emergency Co-Ordination Group.

Kildare County Council has been in contact with the Defence Forces who are also on standby, if required.

Kildare County Council’s response teams including roads, water, fire, civil defence are on standby to deal with the impact of Storm Ophelia.

The Severe Weather Assessment team are scheduled to re-convene mid afternoon today.  We encourage people  to keep an eye on the council’s website – www.kildare.ie/countycouncil.ie and social media for up to date information.

Kildare County Council offices are now closed and will remain so for the rest of the day.

 A temporary contingency plan has been put in place by to make shelter available for people sleeping rough today and tonight during the severe weather.
The Peter McVerry Trust services in the county (Newbridge service (Eyre Street – Tel -045 450990) and Athy Family Hub (contact on 087 175 9524 located at former Dominican Priory) have been designated safe spaces for rough sleepers in the county .

 For emergencies the public are advised to contact 1890 50 03 33.
