Temporary Closing of Roads

Notice of Intention

Roads Act, 1993

Roads Regulations, 1994

Kildare County Council, on behalf of Transport Infrastructure Ireland, gives notice in accordance with Section 75 of the Roads Act, 1993 and the Roads Regulations, 1994, that it intends to close:

The R406 between Maynooth and Straffan at the M4 Junction 7 Interchange

Dates and Times of the closure:                                             

Monday, 22 June to Thursday, 25 June 2020 21.00 hrs to 06.00 hrs

Monday, 29 June to Thursday, 02 July 2020 21.00 hrs to 05.00 hrs              

The temporary closure is required to facilitate the resurfacing of the pavement. It is expected that the works will take 3 nights, but additional closures have been booked in case of unforeseen delays and or poor weather.

Diversion routes:

See below traffic management plans 1213-TM-013 Rev 0, 1213-TM-014 Rev 0 & 1213-TM-015 Rev 0, 1213-TM-029 Rev 0

Traffic travelling North on the R406 to Dublin (1213-TM-015 Rev 0):

  • Take M4 Westbound merge slip
  • Continue on M4 Motorway Westbound for approx. 7.3 km to Junction 8
  • Take M4 Junction 8 Exit
  • Turn right at rotary
  • Take M4 Eastbound merge slip and re-join M4 Motorway Eastbound

Traffic travelling North on the R406 to Maynooth (1213-TM-015 Rev 0):

  • Take M4 Westbound merge slip
  • Continue on M4 Motorway Westbound for approx. 7.3 km to Junction 8
  • Take M4 Junction 8 Exit
  • Turn right at rotary
  • Take R148 exit
  • Turn right at first roundabout
  • Continue on the R148 for approx. 7.5km to Maynooth

Alternatively, for Learner drivers: (1213-TM-029 Rev 0):

  • Turn right onto the L5054/5 Ballygoran Road
  • Continue on the L5054/5 for approx. 2.0km to T-junction at R405
  • Turn left onto the R405 and continue for approx. 2.1km to T-junction at the R406

Traffic travelling South on the R406 to Dublin (1213-TM-014 Rev 0):

  • Turn left onto the R405 Cellbridge Road
  • Continue on the R405 for approx. 2.1km and turn Left onto the R405 at the L5055 Junction
  • Continue on the R405 for approx. 1.4km to the roundabout and take the first exit onto the R449
  • Continue on the R449 for approx. 1km to M4 Junction 6 Interchange
  • Take M4 Eastbound merge slip and re-join M4 Motorway Eastbound

Traffic travelling South on the R406 to Straffan (1213-TM-014 Rev 0):

  • Turn left onto the R405 Cellbridge Road
  • Continue on the R405 for approx. 2.1km and turn Left onto the R405 at the L5055 Junction
  • Continue on the R405 for approx. 1.4km to the roundabout and take the first exit onto the R449
  • Continue on the R449 for approx. 1km to M4 Junction 6 Interchange
  • Take M4 Westbound merge slip and re-join M4 Motorway Westbound
  • Continue on M4 Motorway Westbound for approx. 3.1 km to Junction 7
  • Take M4 Junction 7 Exit and rejoin the R406 Southbound

Alternatively, for Learner drivers: (1213-TM-029 Rev 0):

  • Turn left onto the R405 Cellbridge Road
  • Continue on the R405 for approx. 2.1km and turn right onto the L5054/5
  • Continue on the L5054/5 for approx. 2.0km to T-junction at the R406

Diversionary routes will be clearly signposted, as agreed with the council and An Garda Síochána. Emergency access will be allowed at all times. Any objections/observations should be lodged in writing to the Senior Executive Officer, Roads, Transportation & Public Safety Department, Áras Chill Dara, Devoy Park, Naas, Co. Kildare or by email to roadssubmissions@kildarecoco.ie on or before 5.00 p.m. on Monday, 25 May 2020.
