As the 2008 Prodrift Ireland Season approaches its thrilling finale the competitors will not only have their rivals to consider but will also have a new challenge to face.

For the first time in a competitive event at the Kildare track the Mondello Park drift arena will be turned on its head with competitors tackling the course in the reverse direction. Drivers will commence their run-up from the exit of Dunlop corner and will begin their drift just after the main-straight grandstand to give them the highest corner entry speeds ever experienced on an Irish track. Round 5 of the championship will therefore take on even greater significance in the title hunt as drivers who can adapt quickest to the new layout will be the ones who come out on top.

16 Year old drift sensation James Deane currently holds a 12 point lead at the top of the table but is being pushed all the way by John O'Connell and previous Prodrift champions Damien Mulvey and Eric O'Sullivan. Team Hankooks Damien Mulvey won the event at Mondello in April but will face some very stiff opposition and a major challenge if he is to work his way through the last thirty two run off to take the top spot again.

The latest round of the Prodrift Irish championship is backed up by further track action from the Mondello Park Time Attack series which is supported by Modified Motors. The Time Attack battle has also reached its penultimate round and looks like going down to the wire at the final round which will be the headline event of Mondello Jap Fest on September 7th.

Mitsubishi Evo drivers, Brian Sexton Martin Tracey and Sonny Boyd currently sit first, second and fourth in the championship with Philip Burdock’s lone Subaru Impreza getting in among the Evo’s in third. All four have a mathematical chance of taking the title but if Sexton and Tracey finish both remaining rounds the title will go to one or other of them.
