NAAS UNION
WEDNESDAY.
…
DISTRICT COUNCIL.
Mr. J. S. O’Grady, J.P., chairman, presided.
THE SPEED OF MOTOR CARS.
The Chairman said complaints had been made to him as to the
reckless driving of motor cars on the roads in the district. A man
named Brien of Kilcullen, who travelled a sire along the road, was
amongst those who complained. Mr. O’Brien was driving and his
man was leading the sire. A motor car, driven not by an Englishman
or an Irishman, but by a foreigner, was coming along the road at a
great speed. Mr. O’Brien put up his hand, but the motorist took
no notice, and the consequence was that the horse reared up against
a wall and was badly cut. He proposed:- “The we desire to condemn
the practice of motorists running their cars at a greater speed than
that allowed by the regulations: we also consider that when a motorist
is requested to slow up when passing a restive horse, he should slow
up, and not flash by as they do at present: and that the Local Government
Board be requested to require owners to have their cars numbered for
the purpose of identification.” - The resolution was carried
unanimously.
