Special citations presented

NAAS, 1 February 2002: by Trish Whelan. Five members of the Naas Unit of the Order of Malta were presented with special citations at a recent ceremony in Naas Care of the Aged.

The five, Adj May Dunne, Lieut John Loughran, Cadet James Maher and volunteers Dave Henry and Orla Beattie, were awarded with citations for special duty at Naas Races last year when they attended an injury case.

First Aid certs were awarded to Una Keeley, Theresa Barton, Mary McNamee, Erna McCarthy, Bernie Grehan, Helen Lawlor, Mary Sinnott, Miriam McCann, Elizabeth Nooney, Adrian Heffernan, Pamela Mullins, Pauline Sutton, Linda O’Leary, Jackie Carey, Paula Rooney, Mary Gillis, Jackie McGrail, Liza Hagan, Violeta Tagab, Stephanie Jones, Anthony Daly, Pauric Reilly, and Heidi Hughes.

Unable to attend the ceremony were First Aid cert awardees Aisling Heffernan, Aishing O’Keeffe, Gerry Power and Hanna Power, Kathleen Corley.

The courses were held in the Parish Centre from September-December 2001. They included ten weeks of tuition with one revision night. The instructor was Lieut John Kelly.

The ceremony was an integral part of the Order of Malta annual party for senior citizens held in Naas Care of the Aged on Sunday 27 January.

Following a Mass in the centre, the older folk were treated to a sit down meal and live music featuring Barney Kavanagh.

There was huge praise for the culinary expertise of caterer John Cully. Another local man, George Farrell was responsible for a huge number of spot prizes on the day.
