Calling all Kildare Book Clubs

Posted Date: 5 November 2007

Calling all readers! Fancy winning a weekend break to the Ennis Book Club Festival, a fantastic literary and social gathering that brings together hundreds of Book Clubs and book lovers?

Details of this exciting competition have just been announced. The Ennis Book Club Festivaland Kildare Library & Arts Service are offering book clubs and readers an opportunity to win a weekend break at the 2008 Ennis Book Club Festival. The festival, which was an enormous success earlier this year, will take place next year from 29th February to 2nd March.

All you have to do is describe your “Fantasy Book Club Evening” - who would make up your ideal book club gathering and what book would you read? You can meet anywhere, you can invite anyone – there are no barriers – Marie Antoinette, Mahatma Gandhi….anything is possible.

The competition is open to anyone over 18 years of age. Entry forms and further details are now available from your local branch of Kildare County Library. Entries should be under 500 words, preferably typed, and should be returned to your local library by 30th November 2007.

The three winners in each county will receive two Weekend Festival tickets, kindly sponsored by participating libraries. This gives admission to most events of the Festival. The county winners go forward to the National Final and from that one overall winner will be selected.

The national winner will receive a fabulous prize of a weekend break for 6 people to the Ennis Book Club Festival (2 nights’ hotel accommodation on a bed and breakfast/shared room basis). This prize is generously sponsored by John Treacy, International Education Services, Leixlip.

So get writing…and next year you could be in Ennis sharing a joy of reading, meeting authors, discussing books, and having a weekend break with friends in one of Ireland’s most beautiful towns. The 2008 festival will include readings by Joanne Harris, Roddy Doyle, Thomas Lynch and many others. Workshops on understanding fiction, walking tours of Ennis, sessions on organising book clubs and reading lists will also be on offer.

Further information is available from Ennis Book Club Festival, Clare Library HQ., Mill Road, Ennis, Co. Clare. Tel.  087 226 2259.
