Local History and 1798 Commemoration in
Kilcock
The first Local History Club or Group in Kilcock emerged
in January 1898 when the Lord Edward Commemoration Branch
was formed. Its object was to commemorate the centenary of
the '98 rebellion' in the Kilcock area.
The work of this group was carried on in 1948 by the Ovidstown
Commemoration Committee, which celebrated the 150th anniversary
of the rising.
In September 1997 the Teresa Brayton Heritage Group called
a public meeting in Kilcock to set up a committee to honour
the bi-centenary of 1798. A committee was formed and adopted
the name the 'Lord Edward 98 Committee'. This group is actively
carrying on the work of the other two groups.
