Mondello Park Team, expanding for new season

Mondello Park can offer a wide variety of interesting opportunities to enthusiasts...

Mondello Park Sports Club and the Mondello Park Track Team are currently on a recruitment drive for new members interested in becoming involved in the organisation, running and presentation of motorsport events at the County Kildare Circuit and elsewhere.

The Mondello Park Sports Club is one of Ireland's most active Motor Racing Clubs, running both two and four wheel motorsport events and shows. All events are organised in conjunction with the Mondello Park Track Team and assisting at these events is a rewarding way to work on the inside track of high octane Motorsport. The organisations are also at the forefront of events outside Mondello Park, such as Top Gear Live and Bavaria City Racing Dublin, whose organisers come to Mondello Park for the expertise required to safely run motorsport in street and car park locations.

All over the world volunteers are the back bone of motor racing events from Club Racing to Formula One, and Mondello Park is no exception. From pre-event organisation, through race day operations, to assisting with the presentation of motorsport events on social media and live streaming TV coverage, Mondello Park can offer a wide variety of interesting opportunities to enthusiasts.

To keep events running on track, incident, flag, fast intervention vehicle and rescue Marshals are key. This is where the real work is done as these Marshals are responsible for keeping the track clear and in a safe condition, while also acting as the eyes and ears of the off-track race organisation team. Race organisation duties are varied and range from grid and paddock officials, to the time keepers who are responsible for production of results at the end of each race. In recent years social media and the live streaming of race events on Mondello.TV has opened up additional opportunities for those interested in the promotion and publicising of race events.

Whether it’s on-track marshalling, off-track race organisation, social media updating, or assisting in the production of Mondello.TV, membership of the Mondello Park Sports Club or Track Team always has something challenging and interesting to offer. Training is provided and there are many skills to be learned which will also be very beneficial in other areas of life and work.

Testimony to these opportunities is provided by Track Team graduate Paul Burns: “I joined the Track Team in 2008 initially marshalling on circuit, but then I became involved in Race Timing. Mondello Park’s system uses the same basic hardware as Formula 1 and when I saw F1 advertising for timekeeping staff in 2010, I applied. The experience I gained at Mondello Park coupled with the reference the circuit gave me, helped me secure the job and I now travel the world as part of the Formula 1 circus that people watch on TV every other week. Without my Track Team experience at Mondello, that simply wouldn’t have happened!”

While all Track Team and Mondello Park Sports Club members are volunteers, there are many rewards for their efforts over the course of a season. These include a healthy social calendar, complimentary lunch and post-event drinks and the opportunity to sample the Mondello Park Racing, Supercar and 4X4 Off-Road Experiences. If you’d like to get involved, contact Mondello Park on 045-860200 or info@mondellopark.ie and we can discuss what role might best suit you.
