Celbridge Youth Drama have delved into the classic Irish canon of plays to reinterpret Brian Friel's sublime masterpiece.'Philadelphia Here I Come'is one of Brian Friel's ,most enduring plays. Here, Friel invents his most imaginative and surreal alter ego of Gar Private, the inner voice and conscience of Gar Public, the plays'protagonist, as he prepares to leave for America.Striking both comic and tragic notes, the play explores the father and son relationship, emigration and unspoken love.
This production is directed by long time leader, Glen McGrath, and is CYD's third outing in the Moat Theatre. CYD is a community based youth drama group from Celbridge, in existence since 2002, and fresh from the Wyeth Festival of Youth Drama in Newbridge.
