Even the most casual visitor is encouraged and welcomed by the mix of hands-on workshops, relevant exhibitions, living historians and informative lectures.

A unique blend of lectures, re-enactors and workshops, bringing history and archaeology to life.

This  years Lecture Series on  Saturday the 24th has 2 strands;     lectures on Bronze Age finds in the area, with a workshop on Bronze Age casting techniques by Holger Lonze.

Also 2 lectures on The Lost Medieval Villages Mulllaghmast and Ardreigh. These will be complimented by the living historians from Wales and the Leinster Re-enactment Society, and the exhibition in the Athy Heritage Centre & Museum.

Sundays lectures include Dr. Margaret Walsh on Wives and Widows in the Medieval, which ties in with an open invitation to learn about Hand fasting, or medieval style of wedding, while Simon and Marie O’Dwyer will conduct a Workshop and lecture on Prehistoric Musical Instruments.

Especially for Kids we have a creative writing workshop and prehistoric music workshop, while a visit to the Falconer is a must.  Don’t miss the Face painter and the juggler, the Ladies and Knights on Sunday!

PLUS we have the Archer, the Amour and Sword Smith, St. Bridget’s Cross Making, Calligraphy, Medieval Food and more!

Look us up on Face Book, South Kildare Medieval Festival,  or contact The Athy Heritage Centre & Museum for details of times and locations for all the events.
