"… skills alone made him soar as he raced up and down or idled dreamily, with awesome control and subtle shading....Van Spaendonck is an artist we should rush to hear,"
said The London Times of Ronald Van Spaendonck, one of the rising stars of the clarinet.

Having dazzled audiences earlier this year at Sligo’s Vogler Spring Festival, the Belgian-born clarinettist returns to Ireland to perform with his long-time collaborator French pianist Alexandre Tharaud, in the first tour of Music Network’s 2003 Autumn Season.

Their programme will include Schumann’s Fantasy Pieces, Op. 73, Brahms’s Sonata, Op. 120 No. 1, Lutoslawski’s Dance Preludes, Ravel’s Ondine for solo piano, Stravinsky’s Three Pieces for Solo Clarinet, Pierné’s Canzonetta, Op. 19, Debussy’s Petite Piece and Rhapsody, and Poulenc’s Sonata for clarinet and piano.

Ronald Van Spaendonck has appeared with the BBC Philharmonic, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and twice with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. He has performed in the most prestigious European venues and appeared with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Liège, Orquestra Clássica de Porto, Oulu City Orchestra, Zürich Symphonic Orchestra, Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra and Orchestre National de Belgique.

An outstanding soloist as well as a fine chamber musician, Alexandre Tharaud has dedicated much of his time to French music. Alexandre Tharaud graduated from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris. He started his international career in earnest when he won the 2nd Prize at the ARD Competition in Munich and has since been invited to perform in most of the prestigious venues in Europe, Japan and the United States.
