MacBeth - The Crooked House Theatre Company

Crooked House Theatre Company presents a dynamic production of the Shakespearian tragedy of blood and ambition. Although this version is designed especially with secondary school pupils in mind, with no major abridgement of the text or characters, it is also great theatre in its own right. The famous play recounts how the warlord Macbeth, egged on by his wife and encouraged by the prophesies of three witches, murders the king of Scotland and begins a reign of terror over the whole country.

The production seeks new ways to explore the atmosphere of fear and dread in the world of MacBeth, and draws on the instability of his reign as a primary theme of the performance. The culture of this rigid, hierarchical and disciplined society is explored in the company's choice of movement, acting style and delivery.

Macbeth will be played by Darren Donohue and Lady Macbeth by Yvonne O' Hara. Members of our Kildare Youth Theatre and of our Children's Theatre (Crooked Mice) take part in the production, giving them the opportunity to be involved with a professional company at this level. In addition, student actors from VTOS Theatre Studies take part in the production. Other roles are played by Steve Gunn (Macduff), Nick Devlin (Banquo), Sarah Kearney (Lady Macduff), Frank Conlan (Duncan), Stuart Mc Glynn (Ross), Eric Higgins (Lennox), Keith Burke (Malcolm), Ian Hollinshead (Fleance). The production is directed by Peter Hussey, designed by Ciarán Aspell and stage managed by Bonnie Mc Cormick.
