Seachtain na Gaeilge

St Brigids has taken great steps in promoting the Irish language among students.  For the national Seachtain na Gaeilge from 10 - 17th March many of the students were presented with the new "Cúpla Focal" Badge which is a variation on the older "Fáinne".  The response from studetns was fantastic and the national campaign saying that it is "cool" to speak Irish seems to be paying off.
Principal, Richard Daly promises to repeat the enthusiastic initiative at the end of the month when the school participates wholeheartedly in Athy's own Seachtain na Gaeilge.  Not only will the school be holting activitiesduring that week but the Glór na nGael committee which organises the town's events boasts two of St. Brigid's staff among its Committee members:
Nábla Uí Chathain agus Clar Ní Chonchubhair who has recently been awarded her M.A in Gaeilge.
The V.E.C. has a long tradition of promotion of the Irish language and culture.  In order to preserve this all of its' teachers had to have a qualification in Irish in addition to their teaching qualifications.
