Class in St. Brigid's came to an exciting close last Friday when the winner of the "Stay and Win" prize was announced before the assembled school.
Throughout the country schools have been involved in initiatives to encourage students to keep up their school attendance. St. Brigid's sees the merit of this, underlining the fact that good school attendance means that students make much more progress.
Mrs Alana Ridge has been tracking the school attendance of all students. Those with full attendance for the month of November were entered in a draw. Excitement mounted as Principal Richard Daly drew out the winning name and slowly revealed the identity of the winning student. It turned out to be Enda Hyland, a third year student , from Ballylinan. He received a £150 voucher for Shaws/ATR. Have fun spending that Enda.. However, Enda was not the only one honoured as Mr Daly Called out the names of four other students whose attendance had improved over this period , to receive "improvers" prizes. They included Sandra Mackey ( 2nd year), Keith Walsh , P.J. Delaney and Nigel Holohan. Well done to all.
It is envisaged that this scheme will be continued again for December in an attemp to impress on students the vital link between good school attendance and their future careers. Mr Daly reminded students of the successes of former students in many career paths both at home and abroad.
