Under 14 Football

St Brigid's Under 14 Football team made a brave start in the Leinster Juvenile League. The match at Geraldine Park on Friday the 17th saw the Brigid's boys put up a great challenge to the U14 team from Bagenalstown. The Bagenalstown boys got off to a great start with 3 quick points but centre field for St Brigid's settled well and Terry Dunne was coming more and more into the game. Alan Doyle from Athy proved he is no push over for a
first year and played a magnificent game. At half time the home team were losing on a scoreline of 2-3 to 0-2. However the score does  not reflect the
manner in which our boys played.

All throughout the second half the Brigid's boys harried and hassled at their physically bigger counterparts and Stephen Donovan made some great runs and got his reward with 2 well taken points. Paddy Doogue also played well and scored a great goal in the final quarter. Despite victory being out of sight Alan Doyle made a brave run up the park to score a fine goal to add to his final tally of 1-1. Others who played well were Dean Roycroft, Jason Moore and Jason Buckley.

In the backline Lee Davis, Enda Butler, Anthony Knowles and Declan Maher tried hard. Our goalkeeper Wayne Dempsey showed great potential. Seán O Keefe tried hard and Alan Byrne played well. Jamie Devereux made his presence felt and a player to watch for in the future is Joe Murphy who plagued the Bagenalstown defence. The final score was 6-6 to 2-4. St Brigid's will go onto play Callan in their next league fixture.
