Occupational Dermatitis is an inflammatory condition
of the skin caused by any substance in the workplace.
There are 2
types of occupational dermatitis
This type of dermatitis
is caused by substances irritating the skin due to constant contact.

In this type of dermatitis
the worker becomes allergic or sensitised, to the offending substance
(allergen). The dermatitis occurs or flares up each time the
worker comes in contact with just a small amount of the allergen,
even for a short period. The rash may not be confined to the
contact area.

Dermatitis accounts for more than 50% of all work related diseases
in Ireland. It has long-term consequences for the workers health
and their ability to continue in employment.
It can have financial
implications for the worker, the employer and the state.
