TABLE
QUIZ
"The Dynamic Duo", Ger & Liam Kelly, hosted
our September Quiz and it certainly was a Quiz with a
difference. Oh, the craic was as good as ever; the questions
as challenging and the atmosphere as electric, but the
usual controversy was somewhat muted. Perhaps the statement
on the posters that "disputing the answers is a barring
offence" put a damper on the debates. As the night progressed,
quite a few ran the risk, by querying and disputing. The
Dynamic Duo" were kept on their toes ... and handled themselves
magnificently. Well done, lads.
The October Table Quiz, due to be held on the last Friday
as usual, clashes with a Poker Classic being organised
by the Parents' Association, so we've rescheduled the
Quiz for the following Friday, November 2nd, at 9.00 p.m.
Watch for the posters to find out who is in the hot seat
that night!
"BEAT
THE BACK TO SCHOOL BLUES"...
...held in
Kelly's, on Sun. 16th September certainly achieved it's
purpose. There wasn't a sad face to be seen from 3.30 p.m.,
when the Fancy Dress Parade was held, until 6.00 p.m. when
the last piece of litter was collected.
There were smiles all round at the children in the Fancy
Dress. Adjudicator Padraig Downey, praised the parents for
the tremendous effort they had put into the costumes. He
awarded medals in three categories .. Most Original, Most
Topical and Funniest. He was particularly impressed with
Adam & Eve!! Proud parents and grandparents cheered their
toddlers to victory in the pre-school race. Smiles were
replaced by screams of laughter as the adults demonstrated
their unique skills in the Three-legged race and their graceful
agility in the Balloon race. The afternoon took on a "Garden
Fete" atmosphere... bunting, stalls, novelty events and
,of course, music. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all those
who came along and by the organisers also.
Many thanks
to our helpers ... Aileen (books), Joan ( plants), Paul
(Money Drop ), Mags Dunne( Buzz Off), Mick Carroll ( Auctioneer)
and our expert Facepainters, Sinead and friend. Congratulations
to our hardworking Committee. As B.A. used to say in The
A-Team, "I love it when a plan comes together."
A.G.M.
The fourth A.G.M. of Timahoe
Community Development Council takes place in Kelly's Lounge
at 8.00 P.M. on Wednesday 17th October. This provides invaluable
opportunities for the Committee to review progress and evaluate
its performance over the last year. It also provides you
with an opportunity to voice your views, make suggestions
and shape our goals for the coming year. PLEASE ATTEND.
New members are always welcome and we are always glad to
see old friends too.
PENNIES
FROM HEAVEN
The day of
the EURO is on the horizon.... Time to shake out the mattress,
check the pockets of the coats in the back of the wardrobe
and empty the piggy banks. Nationwide appeals for coins
have already been launched by various charities. Timahoe
Community Development Council is asking you to consider
our project.... the building of our Community House, as
a worthy local cause. Pauline Finnegan will co-ordinate
our "Pennies from Heaven" Appeal. You can, if you wish,
donate your coins to Pauline or to any of our Committee
members. You will receive an official receipt and will be
acknowledged (name & amount ) in our 'Pennies from Heaven"
Account Sheet.
ACTIVE
AGE GROUP
The ingredients
for the Active Age Wicklow Trip were sweet, savoury and
spicy …….. a sprinkling of religion, a touch of culture,
a taste of history, a dash of sight-seeing and a spot of
shopping. The mixture resulted in a very varied and enjoyable
day Glendalough, Wicklow Gaol, Bray seafront and roadtrain
and Enniskerry. The icing on the cake was the hooley in
Kelly's, when we came home. We danced into the wee, small
hours of the morning. They don't call us active for nothing!
Our September meeting was more
sedate. We had a Table Quiz. It was the brains, not the
feet, that were active that night. The competition was friendly
and the winners got a round of warm applause as they were
presented with their cups (soup cups) and photo albums.
Our next Get-Together is the
last Wednesday in October, the 31st …….. music and chat
are on the Agenda, as well as the usual Raffle & Refreshments.
Come along and meet your neighbours and friends.
