You may be aware that a number of proposals for housing development in the village of Staplestown are currently being discussed with planning officials of Kildare County Council. Most of these developments are at pre-planning stage. However, one development located beside the cemetery on the village has been granted planning permission. This development comprises 6 dormer bungalows. Other developments in the vicinity of this permitted development have been mentioned.

At the Eastern end of the village at Staplestown cross roads and opposite the G.A.A. Grounds, two other developments are being discussed at pre-planning stage with Kildare County Council officials. Both proposals are interlinked and comprise the construction of 12 units of Social housing plus 48 private houses. Kildare County Council have entered into a contract with the owner of these lands to purchase land for the housing project. A planning application for this private development has recently been submitted.

To provide water and sewage service to such developments Kildare County Council officials are examining the feasibility of upgrading the existing water supply and constructing a central sewage treatment plant in the village with a projected capacity of up to 195 new houses.

As most of these proposals are at the pre-planning stage it provides an opportunity for the community to influence the future development of our village and surroundings. Proper planning of our village's development will improve the amenities for those who live or work in the village or those who visit or pass through.

What would you like to see developed in Staplestown Village? Would you like proper footpaths, better parking facilities, a community center, better lighting, a streetscape with trees and flowers? More housing, shops or industrial activity? Whether you are a native of Staplestown or one of the many individuals and families who have established a home in the area, the development of the Village must be of interest to you. At the up coming Annual General Meeting of the Tir Na Mona Staplestown area this topic will be discussed.

The prizes and prize-money of the Coill Dubh - St.Kevin's lotto will change for the draw to be held on 7th January 2002. This is due to the Euro Changeover. Details of these changes are available in this month's issue of the MONA and from any committee member.

Congratulations to Joe & Christina Fox on winning £100 in our October monthly draw. With only one monthly draw left the tickets are becoming scarce. To avoid disappointment of not being in the draw contact any club member as soon as possible. The Monster Draw will take place in the clubrooms on Saturday 8th December 2001.

Congratulations also to Jennifer Ward & Mark Brady who were engaged recently. The couple celebrated with their family & friends in the clubrooms. Best of Luck for the future to them both. The Sports Hall as always is available for any groups, sporting or otherwise. The clubrooms are also available for any smaller groups, parties or meetings.

On Monday the 29th October a container left Dublin for Mozier in the Chernobyl area of Belarus. On board were a large number of food parcels and patchwork blankets (all lined) donated by Gwen Grogan and friends. This container load will be distributed to the Children's Hospital, the General Hospital and the orphanage within the next three weeks. I'm sure lots of thanks will go to Gwen & Co. from the children who instead of going hungry and cold will now be full and warm.

The mobile library will visit Staplestown on Thursday the 15th and Thusday the 29th November from 11.50 - 12.30pm.
