KILDARE 22ND SCOUTING (ST KEVIN'S) INVESTITURE:
The need for Scouting is probably
higher now than at any other time given the lifestyles we
all lead to day. Recognizing this need, a group of local
parents came together to form a new Scouting organization
based in Staplestown with the aim of providing young people
an opportunity to undertake adventurous and challenging
activities and at the same time have plenty of fun. These
activities are intended to help our young people develop
positive characteristics and improve their mental, teamwork
and creative skills and to also help achieve their full
physical, intellectual and social potential as good citizens
and members of the local community. Four months after being
formed, this new Scouting Unit are ready to achieve their
first major milestone, the investiture of all the Leaders
and Beavers and Cubs. The Investiture is a formal ceremony
where all members are formally initiated into their positions
and join the brotherhood of Scouting. All the children and
Leaders make their solemn promise to obey the laws of the
Scouts.
Kildare 22nd unit would like to thank Fr. O'Malley for his
blessing on the night. We appreciate the presence of Simon
Dwyer; outgoing Regional Commissioner, Sean Power; incoming
Regional Commissioner, and Sean Farrell; H.Q. administrator,
also Joy Coy and some of her troop who attended on the night.
Any parents/adults interested in supporting the Scouting
group in a leadership or 'unit support' capacity should
contact Vincent Waters at 045 869022 or Elaine Kane at 045
863572. Currently there are 45 children in this scouting
unit with 10 Leaders. The numbers of trained scouting leaders
recruited will determine the Scouting Membership numbers
that can be supported and already there are lengthy waiting
lists for young children anxious to join.
