ST. KEVINS G.F.C

This month we start off on a rather somber note. It is with deep sadness and empathy that we join with the Fox family in mourning the loss of their only son, Colin. All members of St. Kevin's and indeed the wider community were utterly shocked when the news broke of the tragic accident that claimed the life of Colin. It is difficult to find words of comfort for Joe, Christina (Barney), Amanda & Aaron, as well as Colin's grandparents and his fiancée, Rosemary. Suffice it to say: 'Ag criost an siol' agus 'Ar dheis de go raibh a anam dhilis'.

TEAM NEWS

Our 1st team has started their league campaign off this year with a good win away to Rheban and unlucky defeats to Sallins and Monasterevin. The lads are training well under new manager John Blessing and we wish John and the lads the best of luck. Upcoming games are away to Ardlough on the 1st of May, home to Rathangan on the 8th of May and home to Naas on Sunday the 12th of May. St. Kevins will play Eadestown in the first round of the intermediate championship on the 19th of May with the venue to be announced, so if you have an hour or two to spare come down to the games and shout the lads on.

Our juniors teams have also started their leagues and its great to see St. Kevins fielding a third team this year and it has been noted that a few former third team greats have been seen in sports shops around the area fitting on new boots! The junior teams play on a Monday evening and all are welcome to come along and tog out for the craic. Training is on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Our U.16's were unluckily defeated last Sunday, which put them out of the run for league honours but fair play to the lads who had an impressive season, which included the resounding defeat of archrivals Caragh. Good luck to our Minor team who are still in the shake up for league honours and who have an upcoming championship match against Caragh.

Its great to see new faces involved with our under age and Welcome to Pat Mangan, Brigid Moore, Tommy Flaherty and Paul Kenny.

Thanks to Martin Lynch of Kildare G.A.A fame for coming out and presenting medals to our winning Ul6 team from last year. It is great to see a star like Martin support the under age teams in the county.

Well done to our own Brian Dunne who was involved with the Kildare U21 team which was defeated by Dublin in the Leinster U21 Semi-Final.

Good Luck to Joe Fox who has the second most important job in Kildare Football as he is manager of the Kildare County juniors who are having an outing in the championship in the next month. Hopefully Joe and the boys can bring some silverware back to the county.

Best of luck to Phillip O'Rourke who recently took over as club Secretary and a very big thank you to our outgoing Secretary Alice Casey who has done Trojan work for the club over the years.
