Kildare Walking Festival July 2018

Guided walks across County Kildare

Attention all recreational walkers, strollers, ramblers, parents & children Get out and enjoy this glorious sunshine with #KildareSportsPartnership during the FREE Kildare Walking Festival this July.

Kildare Walking Festival 2018

There will be guided walks given by trained leaders in various locations INCLUDING #BluewayTrails from July 15th.

If you require transport for any of the Blueway trails ONLY there will be a bus provided from different locations, please confirm your seat for the ONLY stage(s) you will be attending on line by going to www.kildare.ie/kildaresp/BluewayCanalChallenge/

NB You must register for a seat on the bus ONLINE ONLY for EACH STAGE that you would like to participate in.

If you are travelling by yourself, there is no need to register just check out the dates and times that suit you and show up at the allotted time and place.

Make sure to bring appropriate walking shoes, sun cream and of course drinking water

Introduction to Nordic Walking
Date: 10.30am - 1.00pm on Saturday 7th July

Participate in this "Introduction to Nordic Walking" workshop session and discover the health and fitness benefits of this exercise. (Nordic Poles provided)

Meeting Point: Tougher's Ballroom, Newhall, Naas.




Guided Walk of Cliff at Lyons
Date and Time: 10.30am (sharp) - Sunday 8th July

A guided walk taking in the magnificent restored Village at Lyons, with splendid views of the Hill of Lyons, place of the duel between Daniel O'Connell The Liberator and John D'Esterr and a walk along the canal, a section of Arthurs' Way..

Duration/Length: 1 hour / 5km

Royal Canal Greenway Walk
Date and Time: 7.30pm (sharp) - Monday 9th July

Walk the Maynooth to Kilcock Royal Canal section of the 276km Dublin - Galway 'Greenway' and enjoy what this excellent facility has to offer.

Duration/Length: 1.5 hours / 6km
Meeting Point: The Canal Harbour, Maynooth (Transport provided for return journey)

Guided Walk of Straffan House Parklands (K Club)
Date and Time: 7.30pm (sharp) - Tuesday 10th July

A guided walk of Straffan House. View the wonderful open parkland with river views and very fine specimen trees at the home of the 2006 Ryder Cup.

Meeting Point: Reception Straffan House (K Club)

The Curragh Walk
Date and Time: 7.30pm (sharp) - Wednesday 11th July

The Curragh - A different perspective. A level walk along the eastern side of the Curragh Plains, looking at the military camp and its hinterland in the past and present.

Duration/Length: 1.5 hours / 6km
Meeting Point: Beside Larkin's Pub, Maddenstown, The Curragh
Grade: C=Moderate.

Kidare Town Walk
Date and Time: 6.30pm (sharp) - Thursday 12th July

This is a wonderful walk taking you from an urban setting down to a more rural feel around St. Brigid's Well. Key stops along the way including a Franciscan Abbey, the two St. Brigid's Wells, The Black Abbey, and the Solas Bhride Centre and Hermitages.

Duration/Length: 1 hour / 4.2km
Meeting Point: St. Brigid's Church - St. Brigid's Square, Kildare Town

Donadea Forest Walk
Date and Time: 7.30pm (sharp) - Friday 13th July

A guided walk through acres of mixed woodland, a Castle and a lake with a wonderful display of water lilies in the Summer.

Duration/Length: 1 hour / 5km

Castledermot
Date and Time: 10.30am (sharp) - Saturday 14th July

A guided walk through Castledermot visiting the many historical sites along the way.

Duration/Length: 1 hour / 4km
Meeting Point: The Community Centre, Main Street, Castledermot.

'The Blueway' Canal Challenge

 

Join the 'The Blueway' Canal Challenge and be part of a unique walking experience over four stages exploring the proposed 'Blueway' route along the Grand Canal.The challenge will consist of 4 walks over 8 days, each stage/walk covering a section of the canal.

*NB: Transport will be provided to ferry walkers from the FINISH point to the START point so that participants can complete the walk at their own pace.Places are limited so please register as early as possible.



Sunday July 15th @ 10.30am - Stage 1 - ATHY to VICARSTOWN
Distance: approx 11km.
Meeting Point: Vicarstown Canal Bridge @ 10.30am sharp



Tuesday July 17th @ 10.30am - Stage 2 - VICARSTOWN to Monasterevin
Distance: approx 11.5km.
Meeting Point: Canal Drawbridge, Monasterevin @ 10.30am sharp



Thursday July 19th @ 10.30am - Stage 3 - Monasterevin to Rathangan
Distance: approx 10.5km.
Meeting Point: Beside Scoil Rath Iomhagain Secondary School @ 10.30am sharp



Sunday July 22nd @ 10.30am - Stage 4 - Rathangan to Robertstown
Distance: approx 12.5km.
Meeting Point: Roberstown Village Centre @ 10.30am sharp
