Kynog United V Granada FC
Sunday 21st October
Under 14 Goodson Cup Round 2
Granada FC 2
Kynog Utd 0
Kynog Utd made their exit from the Goodson Cup at the 2nd round stage in Meadowvale the home of Granada FC. Both teams started brightly with defences on top in the early stages and space and time on the ball were limited as both midfields closed down their opponents quickly.
Granada opened the scoring in the 14th minute when a corner was met on the volley at the edge of the penalty area and found the roof of the net. Jack Kenny and Eamon Cox were prominent for Kynog in the opening half whilst Darren Carty and Patrick Hudson continue to impress. Granada started to exert more pressure on the Kynog defence but found it difficult to break through the rearguard . Kynog went close to an equaliser in the 27th minute when an excellent passing movement saw Conor Staines have a shot well saved by the goalkeeper and Adrian Morans follow up shot went narrowly wide.
The second half began with Kynog on the attack with Conor Staines again forcing the goalkeeper to save well. Granada then doubled their advantage in the 50th minute when a left wing cross found an unmarked Granada player who with time and space calmly found the back of the net.
The game finished with no further scores despite the best efforts of both teams.

Under 8s Kynog United V Kilcock United
Kynog Utd 1 – 1 Kilcock Celtic
A packed Kynog Park was treated to an enthralling match. Kynog opened brightly with Justin Reilly in the Kynog midfield making some driving runs at the Kilcock defence. Kynog dominated the first half, playing some great football and keeping Kilcock penned back in their own half for most of the half. It was only some resolute defending, the post and a near miss (which had the crowd cheering for the goal that never was) that kept Kynog out, until Josh Harris and Joshua Lee drove into the Kilcock penalty box and Sean Hanafey drove the loose ball through a packed penalty box and into the Kilcock net. Kynog could have gone further in front through Ciaran Casey but Kilcock stood firm and Kynog went in at half time 1-0 up.
The second half was a contrast to the first as Kilcock opened strongly and grabbed an equaliser through Steven Byrne. A great midfield battle between Oisin Proudfoot for Kilcock and Adam O’Brien for Kynog typified an exciting and end to end second half that was full of incident and some excellent football as both teams searched for an elusive winner. In the final minutes, Owen Melia could have won it for Kynog only for the keeper and the post to deny him, while only some terrific defending from Johnny Byrne and a point blank save from Brian Crosse prevented Kilcock from snatching a late winner. In the end, a draw was a fair result for both teams who put on a great show of football for the large crowd.

Under 12s Match Report V Arlington
U12 Premier Division
Kynog United 2
Arlington 2
Kynog United Under 12 team played their first home league fixture in their new clubs grounds in Kynog park Timahoe, and what a game it turned out to be, With both teams serving up an excellent game of football for the large group of spectators.
Jamie Moore and David Hayes were causing problems for the Arlington defence in the early stages of the game, but unfortunately they were unable to finish.
Arlington responded with pressure of their own but were met by Ross Maher in the Kynog goal whose sure handling and bravery helped keep the game scoreless. Graham O’Brien had to be alert in the full back position to repel the extra pressure Arlington were exerting from Jason Night and Robert McMeill. Kevin O’Brien and Brian McGrath were also battling hard keeping the visitors on the toes. From a Kynog corner Ciaran McMahon almost opened the scoring but his volley just cleared the crossbar. Half Time arrived with the game scoreless.
The second half was only five minutes old when Arlington were awarded a free kick some thirty yards out, Up stepped Lee Moore whose shot found the top corner of the net. Kynog responded almost immediately when David Hayes broke through the Arlington defence only to see his effort saved by Kevin Galvan .The ball broke for Evan Treacy to equalize from close range. In the 45th Minute David Hayes once again broke through only to see Kevin Galvan leave his area to effect the clearance. Kynog took the lead in the 48th minute when Shane Morrison won the ball and from acute angle managed to find the corner of the net. Arlington went in search of an equalizer but were denied initially by a brave Ross Mayer save . To their credit the visitors deservedly equalized in the 52th minute when a ball split the Kynog defence down the middle for Pardic Carey to run on to and calmly slotted the ball home. The remaining minutes saw both teams go in search of a winner but the final whistle arrived with the scores level. Both teams can be proud of their performance for what was to be a fair result from a great game.

Under 11 Match Report V Bush Celtic
U11 MAJOR DIVISION
KYNOG UTD 4 V BUSH CELTIC 0
Kynog Utd u11’s hosted Bush Celtic at Kynog Park and once again a large crowd was
in attendance to see these two fine teams battle it out in a very exciting game which was much closer than the score line suggests.
Kynog started strong with Conor Donoghue and Conor Murray in midfield pushing Kynog forward but Ellen Dowling were working tirelessly for Bush to keep Kynog at bay. Her strong driving runs from the heart of midfield were a joy to watch and only for Dylan donogue in the heart of the Kynog defence was keeping her out.
Kynog were beginning to link well and a lovely ball from the work horse Brian Elliott out to the pacey Adam Lynch who send in a lovely cross for Joseph Kenny to head Kynog into the lead. The strong man Lynch made run after run and only brave defending from Christopher Spain and Shane Dunne for bush kept him out.
Bush pushed forward with Billy Fitzgerald but brave defending from Eoin Kelly and Darragh Lynch kept bush out.
The second half saw Kynog start strongly and
Adam cully and Colm staines were now running midfield for Kynog and a cross saw Declan Reilly finish expertly to make the game safe for Kynog. Once again a very sporting match between these two evenly matched sides. Kynog were well served by Conor donoghue and Lee Dempsey while player of the match was Ellen dowling for Bush.

Under 8 Match Report Kynog United V Athgarvan Villa 7th October 2007
Kynog Utd 1-4 Athgarvan Villa
Both teams started brightly and while Athgarvan put Kynog under pressure from the start, neither goalkeeper had to make many saves. As the first half wore on, Kynog came more into the match, but it was Athgarvan who opened the scoring through Cian Gobbett. Within minutes, Kynog came within inches of equalising as Josh Harris sent Adam O’Brien clear only for the Athgarvan keeper to save well. Into the second half and the pressure increased on Kynog as their younger players tired and although Johnny Byrne continued to be a rock in the Kynog defence, Kynog could not prevent Athgarvan going 4-0 up through further goals from Brogan Lyons, Jamie Brophy and Niall O’Connor. Kynog finally got the goal that their early play had deserved when Joshua Lee first won and then converted a penalty.

u14's Match report v Kilcock away 6/10/2007
UNDER 14 MAJOR DIVISION SATURDAY 6TH OCTOBER
KILCOCK 2
KYNOG UTD 6
Kynog United started the better of the teams with Martin Baneham prominent on the right side of midfield. He crossed on a couple of occasions but the ball just evaded Craig Gaynor and Shane Merriman. The defence were coping well with the Kilcock forwards and with Jack Kenny and Adrian Moran in midfield both passing the ball out to the wide areas for Gavin Crowe and Martin Baneham. Kynog United opened the scoring after 17 minutes when a Jack Kenny through ball found Gavin Crowe who calmly found the back of the net. Adrian Moran then drove through the Kilcock defence only to be denied by brave goalkeeping. Kilcock then started to find gaps in the Kynog defence and were unfortunate not to equalise as the half drew to a close. In the 33rd minute Kynog scored the goal of the game as Blaine Treacy rolled the ball to Darren Carty who found Martin Baneham who went round the full back and crossed for Adrian Moran to score. It was pleasing because it contained elements of the coaching they receive that they, the children put into practice.
The second half saw the visitors increase their advantage when a fine run and cross by Ciaron Baselmans found Martin Baneham who found the bottom corner of the net. Kynog added a fourth in the 50th minute when a Gavin Crowe corner was headed in by Stephen Dwyer. Nathan Gahan added a fifth scoring from close range at the second attempt whilst Jack Kenny managed to get his toe to the ball and beat the Kilcock goalkeeper from close range. Kilcock to their credit continued to compete and were rewarded with a goal from an excellent strike from just outside the penalty area. In the 65th minute a deliberate handball in the Kynog defence saw them reduced to 10 players and the penalty was duly despatched to complete the days scoring.
For Kynog there were many positives to take from the game as well as areas that need working on.

Kynog Utds u11's away to Kill 6/10/2007
U11 MAJOR DIVISION
KILL CELTIC 1 V KYNOG UTD 1
The Return fixture to Kill saw Kynog Utds U11’s gain a draw with Kill on a glorious sunny day in Kill. These two evenly match sides served up a great game of football and at the end of the day a draw was a fair result.
Kynog started strongly and chances fell to Joseph Kenny who put narrowly wide , shots rained in from
Finally Kynog got the goal there play deserved when a lovely cross from Adam lynch was turned into the Kill net. Half time came without any other score.
The second half saw Adam Cully come on and make some great tackles but scores could not come. Kill were not to be outdone and a great shot from Kill was needed to beat Lee Dempsey.
Kynog pushed forward and Luke Herbert had a great effort just off the mark. the heat was taking its toll and the teams finished level. Once again both teams can be proud of the standard of football served up and no doubt they will meet later on in the season.
Once again a very sporting match between these two evenly matched sides. Kynog were well served by Adam cully, Brian Elliott and Dylan Donoghue with the man of the match going to Darragh lynch who was rock in defence

Under 14s Match Report v Kilcullen
Saturday 29th September U14 Major Division
Kilcullen 2 Kynog Utd 0
The home team started much the better having more possession of the ball but Kynog were restricting them to long range shots as Jack Kenny and Martin Baneham continued to impress in the visitors defence. Unfortunately for Kynog their retention of the ball was not up to the standard they have shown in earlier games. However Kilcullen opened the scoring after 17 minutes following a Kynog corner. A long clearance and a lack of communication in Kynogs defence allowed Kilcullen through to score. They doubled their advantage following a fine run and shot from an acute angle. Kynog were dealt further blows as both Conor Staines and Shane Merriman sustained injuries which meant they could take no further part in the game. They were replaced by Adrian Moran and Darren Carty who both went on to have excellent games. Kynog were creating little to trouble the Kilcullen goalkeeper as the first half came to a close.
The second half saw Eamon Cox move to the heart of the Kynog defence alongside Eoin O Reilly. They along with the rest of the team can be extremely proud of their second half performance which saw them close down the opposition much quicker and noticeably improve their passing.
This only allowed Kilcullen a couple of long range efforts on goal which Blaine Treacy did well to save. Unfortunately they were unable to break down the well organised Kilcullen defence though Craig Gaynor and Stephen Dwyer were introduced into the attack and showed great promise.
Well played to Kilcullen who ran out deserving winners. Best wishes go to Conor and Shane for speedy recoveries from their injuries

Match Report Under 8 v Arlington
Arlington FC 7-0 Kynog Utd Sadly, the final score does not reflect the effort that Kynog put in against a more experienced team made up completely of U8s. The first half was fairly even, although the experience of the Arlington players showed and although Kynog were under pressure for spells, they competed well and managed to break out a few times but went into half-time 2-0 down. The second half saw Kynog under pressure for most of the half as the younger players tired, but the encouraging part was that no-one gave up and they continued to hold out before conceding 4 goals in a 5 minute period right at the end of the match. After only 3 weeks training there were some very encouraging signs for the future and Kynog can look forward to scoring our first goal and recording their first win. u11 match report v mill
U11 MAJOR DIVISION
MILL CELTIC 2 KYNOG UTD 4
Kynog Utd u11’s played their first away match of the season and they wont come much tougher than this..
Playing up the hill Kynog got off to a great start with Conor Murray finishing off a great run by Joseph Kenny. End to end stuff followed with Brian mc Grath holding Kynog steady but Mill got the equaliser there play deserved. Birthday boy Gary Harnett restored kynog’s lead before half time.
The second half saw Mill press for the equaliser and a truly world class save from Lee Dempsey kept them out but minutes later Mill were awarded a goal when the ball was deemed to have crossed the line by the referee.
This roused Kynog and again Gary Harnett scored to put Kynog ahead , extra time seemed to drag on for ever with Mill searching for an equaliser but Joseph Kenny ensured all three points came to Kynog with the last play of the match calmy dispatching the ball to the Mill net after a great run.
Kynog were well served by, Eoin Kelly, Conor Donoghue and Colm Staines playing up frobt for the first time.
