Match Report Under 9 Kynog United V BBC

it was a lovely sunny morning as both teams got ready for what everyone agreed would be a great match.
From kick-off Kynog took control of the ball and mid-fielder Jack Gorey headed straight down to the BBC goals and shot the ball pass the BBC backs but was saved by BBC's keeper.
BBC's mid-fielders fought hard to get by the Kynog Defenders Ciaran Walsh and Steven Burke who would steal the ball and pass it up to the Kynog's mid-fielders.
Eleven minutes into the match and Steven Burke kicked and great ball up to Jack Gorey who worked his way up to the BBC goals and scored the first goal of the match.
BBC worked hard to get the ball up to Kynog's keeper Catherine Fallon but found it hard to score with the Kynog Defenders on their backs, and with mid-fielders Keith Donohoe, Anthoney Farrell and Captain Jack Gorey on the attack.
As the whistleblew for half time the score was still 1-0.
Both teams stepped up their game for the second half, each team fighting hard to gain control of the ball.
Eight minutes into the second half and Anthoney Farrell worked the ball through mid field to Adam Montgomery who scored another goal for Kynog.

Under 14 Match Report Kynog United V Newbridge Town

UNDER 14 MAJOR DIVISION

NEWBRIDGE TOWN      2
KYNOG  UTD              3

On a glorious sunny morning in Newbridge both sides served up a thoroughly entertaining game of football.  The visitors started the stronger with Conor Staines shooting narrowly wide after 6 minutes. The same player got on the end of a Gavin Crowe pass and found the corner of the net in the 10th minute. Newbridge responded with Jack Doyle prominent and both Jack Kenny and Cian Gilligan made some timely interceptions for Kynog. When Newbridge did find a way through they found Blaine Treacy difficult to beat. Newbridge began to win more possession in the midfield area and duly equalised in the 21st minute when a Ricky Caffery shot beat the Kynog keeper. The remainder of the half saw both teams with good possession but unable to create any clear chances.
The second half saw the home team doing most of the pressing in the early stages whilst Kynog were always threatening on the break with Adrian Moran Eamon Cox and Conor Staines. In the 47th minute a pass from Darren Carty found Conor Staines who fended off a couple of tackles before being tripped and a penalty was awarded. Jack Kenny stepped up and beat Cillian Smith in the Newbridge goal. Kynog increased their lead in the 53rd minute when a Shane Merriman pass found Conor Staines who finished calmly. Newbridge driven on by Sean Winning threw everything at Kynog but a combination of poor finishing and smart goalkeeping kept them out until the 65th minute when Jack Doyle scored direct from a free kick. The remaining minutes saw Gavin Crowe shoot narrowly wide for Kynog whilst the visitors defence held out. Newbridge were best served by Sean Winning and Jack Doyle while Kynog players deserving mention include Blaine Treacy Conor Staines and Gavin Crowe.

under 10 Match Report Kynog United V Clane

Clane 3-0 Kynog United

The U10s turned out in their first match since October missing a few players and looking for their first win of the season. The match started evenly with few chances for either side, until Clane broke on the left only for a fine sliding tackle from captain Reece Winders to prevent a goal scoring chance. The game remained even with Adam Toman in the Kynog midfield finding good spaces on the left and making some incisive and probing passes as Kynog looked to unlock a tight Clane defence while fellow midfielder Ross Phelin, making his debut, broke up Clane’s midfield play very effectively. Mid way through the first half, Kynog were punished for failing to clear from a corner as the ball was fired into the roof of the net from close range. This spurred Kynog on and twice in the space of a few minutes, Gerry Melia was denied by excellent saves, while a great through ball found David Dunn through on goal only for a last ditch tackle to block the shot. Just as it looked like Kynog were taking control of the game, another corner led to a second goal for Clane as Kynog again failed to clear and the ball was prodded home. This took the wind out of Kynog’s sails as Clane dominated and it was only a fine save from keeper Craig Harris that kept the score at 2-0 as the half-time whistle sounded. Kynog came out in the second half with renewed vigour and play was again fairly even, but Clane were making good use of the slope and it was only a fantastic defensive performance from Joey Toman who seemed to be everywhere, that kept Clane out until a speculative shot found the net. To their credit, Kynog kept going to the end and were unfortunate when further chances for David Dunn and Johnny Byrne, who was stepping up from the U8’s and did not look out of place, shaved the post. At the end of the day, it was not to be for Kynog, but the team can take credit for the effort they put in and the quality of some of their play.

Under 8 Match Report Kynog United V Clane

Clane 0-3 Kynog Utd

Kynog’s U8’s travelled to Clane on Sunday morning looking to get their season going again after a longer winter break. Against a young Clane side, Kynog started strongly, keeping Clane penned back in their own half for long periods with Josh Harris covering every blade of grass in midfield and captain Ben O’Haire mopping up behind the midfield. It was just rewards for Kynog’s fine play when Adam O’Brien scored a great goal from wide on the left, curling the ball into the near post. With most of the half being played in the Clane half, Johnny Byrne moved into midfield and drove a couple of excellent shots just over the bar as the half closed. The second half started as the first half ended with Kynog on top and they quickly put the game beyond Clane as first, Joshua Lee collected a loose ball in the box and found the bottom corner, and then Brian Crosse drove a second loose ball into the top of the net. With the game over as a contest, Kynog took their foot off the gas and it was only some fine defending by Cathal Walsh that kept Clane from testing Kynog’s keeper, while Kynog continued to look for a fourth goal. This was by far Kynog’s most dominant performance of the season and all the more encouraging after the long break.

Under 14 Kynog United V Athgarvan Villa

ATHGARVAN VILLA      2
KYNOG UNITED           3

Kynog United advanced to the next round of the cup with a thoroughly deserved victory against Athgarvan Villa. Kynog started the stronger with Gavin Crowe prominent on the left side of midfield and Patrick Hudson excelling on the qpposite flank. Kynog opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Adrian Moran rose to meet a Martin Baneham corner and his well placed header found the back of the net. Kynog almost doubled their advantage on 25 minutes when another Baneham corner found Ciaron Baselmans whose drive was well palmed away by the Athgarvan keeper. Shortly before the interval Athgarvan almost equalised as a player met the ball unchallenged but headed narrowly over the bar.
The second half saw the introduction of Eoin O Reilly . His composure along with his team mates saw several excellent passages of play as the visitors created chances but were unable to convert them. Athgarvan kept pressing and duly equalised in the 45th minute when a cross shot went beyond Blaine Treacy in the Kynog goal and just crossed the line before Luke Fitzsimons clearance. On 49 minutes a Gavin Crowe cross found Eoin O Reilly who set up Martin Baneham whose left foot strike found the back of the net.  Athgarvan equalised again in the 58th minute as the Kynog defence allowed time for an excellent strike to find the top corner. It is a credit to this group of players from Kynog that they continue to improve evident as they pushed forward in search of a winner. A Gavin Crowe free kick found Eamon Cox whose first time shot put Kynog in front again.
Athgarvan to their credit had a chance to equalise in the final minute but Blaine Treacy pulled off an excellent save diving high to his left.
All Kynog players played well but a special mention must go to Adrian Moran and Patrick Hudson.

Under 11 match report home to Prosperous

Kynog Utd 4 Prosperous Utd 2

This closely contested match between neighbours was as good a match as you will see and it was a credit to the children who took part that the large crowd were kept on their toes right to the end.

Prosperous had kindly agreed to move venues and Kynog were determined to hold onto their unbeaten home record. Right from the start Kynog attacked and Adam Lynch was fouled on the edge of the box. Up stepped the Rock Dylan Donoghue and only the net could stop his blockbuster.

Prosperous were not unnerved and driven on by Birthday boy Wesley Heavey they began to put Kynog under pressure. Kynog Captain Eoin Kelly and Goalie Lee Dempsey were kept busy by the tricky wing play of Cashel mc grath and striker Emmet O Connor

Kynog stepped up the pressure and Gary harnett shaved the post and Joseph Kenny had a drive blocked by Lorcan Behan who was marshalling the Prosperous defence superbly. With a minute to go before half time Prosperous won a penalty and Cathal mc grath scored. 1-1 at half time and all to play for.

Colm Staines came on for Kynog and his clever play set up Brian Mcgrath who finished to the net. Kynog were doing all the attacking and Adam Cully and Darragh Lynch linked well only to see the ball cleared off the line. Brian Elliott was keeping the Kynog defence in line and Kynog were unlucky not to extend there lead.

Prosperous roared on by there large following stepped up there game and Jack Tormey sat up Cathal Mcgrath and his blockbuster was unstoppable. Prosperous were now on the up and a Wesley Heavey free kick shaved the post.

Conor Donoghue & Conor Murray as they have done in numerous matches drove Kynog forward and Conor Donoghues run was finished to the net to his and his team mate’s delight .Conor Murray followed up with a shot that was nearly kept out by the Prosperous keeper Matthew Keane . It was all over and a very sporting match that had Man of the match for Kynog in Conor Murray and Prosperous in Wesley Heavey.
