Castle Villa were the visiting team to Kynog Park on a beautiful sunny Saturday morning. Both teams started brightly with early chances at both ends. Villa opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a superb free kick 30 yards out, Up stepped Nathan Doyle who slotted the ball into the top of the home teams net. Kynog responded within minutes when Evan Treacy was on hand to narrowly head the ball over the crossbar. The other end saw Kevin O'Brien making some crucial interceptions in the Kynog defence. Shane Morrison minutes later  had his effort saved by Mark Ormsby in the Villa goal. The same player continued to pile the pressure on the Villa defence and after some fine linking up between Morrison and David Hayes resulted in Kynog equalising just before half time. The second half resumed with play going from end to end. Joey Jermaine had to be extra alert in the Castle Villa defence after some positional changes the home team now had the striking force of Kevin Sheridan and Brian McGrath up front. Kynog added to their scoring in the 40th minute when a Ciaran McMahon shot on goals was cleared but found Evan Treacy whose bicycle kick put his team in front. Shane Morrisons many attempts didn't go unrewarded as he was on hand to add to the home teams scoring in the 50th minute. The final score of the day resulted from a great long range kick out from Ross Maher  picked out Brian McGrath who sealed the victory for the home team. Credit must go to the both teams who played the game in a great spirit .

Under 8 Kynog United V Newbridge Town Yellow

Kynog Utd 2 - 1 Newbridge Town Yellow

On a bright, sunny morning at Kynog Park, both teams served up an entertaining and enthralling encounter that could have went either way. Kynog started the stronger and penned Newbridge back, with Josh Harris and Joshua Lee in the Kynog midfield playing some great passes into Kynog's forwards. Kynog were given an excellent chance after a free-kick was handled in the box and Josh Harris stepped up and drove the penalty low into the corner to give Kynog the lead. Newbridge played themselves into the game and it took some smart goalkeeping from Alex Connolly to prevent Newbridge from equalising through Ben Scanlon. Kynog created a number of chances to extend their lead but were unable to convert them until, with only few minutes left in the first half, Shane O'Connor finished smartly from another dangerous Josh Harris corner. The second half started in complete contrast to the first with Newbridge starting strongly and pushing Kynog back, and it was only some great defending from Justin Reilly that kept Newbridge out. As the second half wore on, Newbridge were putting more and more pressure on Kynog and they got the goal that their pressure deserved when David Higgins ran on to a through ball and showed good composure to finish well. Kynog defended resolutely and although Newbridge had a number of good chances, they were unable to find an equaliser. Newbridge created one final chance with seconds to go but an excellent Sean Hanafey tackle and clearance saw Kynog through to the final whistle.

Under 13 SFAI Cup Kynog United v Granada

SFAI U13 Cup
Sunday 21st Sept
Granada fc    4
Kynog United 1

Kynog United travelled to Granada with 11 players and dominated the first 30 minutes of play , almost opening the scoring in the first 2 minutes of play with David Hayes . Ross Maher in the Kynog United goal was in fine form and wasn't called upon as Kevin O Brien and Ciaran McMahon were in complete control of the Kynog defence. After a long range kick out from Maher was picked up by the Kynog midfield of Evan Treacy to Brian McGrath David Hayes was on hand to test the Granada keeper once again only to have his effort hit the post and rebound to fellow team mate Kevin Sheridan who calmly tapped the ball into the back of the net. Kynog continued to impress throughout the first half with shots on target from Brian McGrath and David Hayes.
With the very warm sun shining down both teams were starting to tire, especially the visitors and Granada equalised in the 40 minute with Conor Cullinane. Kynog fought back with chances from Kevin Sheridan. Kynog were now down to 10 men with a player injured and no subsitations as Granada put the pressure on and introduced fresh legs Conor Cullinane scored his second . As play went from end to end Granada pressure paid off with further goals from Sean Galvin and Johnny Redmond. Full credit must go the Kynog United committed 11 who did themselves and their club proud.

Under 15 Kynog United V Edenderry

Monday 15th Sept

Kynog Utd           0
Edenderry  Town  5

Edenderry Town started much the brighter and were rewarded with two first half goals by Lorcan Pender. But for some wayward finishing they would have been further ahead. Kynogs best efforts were from an Adam Lamczyk header that just cleared the bar and shot that hit the side netting.  The visitors passing and movement continued to cause the home team problems.
The second half saw Kynog increase the tempo of their game and were almost rewarded when a Conor Staines shot narrowly missed the far post. Then in the 65th minute Lorcan Pender found space inside the home teams penalty area to complete his hat-trick. Further Edenderry goals followed by Shane Menton to complete the scoring.

Kynog United 3
Edenderry Town 5

Edenderry Town last seasons under 11 division champions travelled to Kynog Park to take on the under 11 Major Division champions and both teams put a spectacular game of football for the watching supporters. Kynog opened the scoring in the 3rd minute of play when a Conor Donoghue pass set up Brian McGrath . Minutes later Lee Dempsey bravely dived across his goal mouth to deny an equalizer. Kynog went on the attack and an Adam Cully pass found Conor Donoghue whose shot narrowly shaved the post. Edenderry responded and were unlucky to see a shot hit the upright and Gerry Melia was on hand to clear. The visitors deservedly equalized in the 17th minute through Adam Mahon. They continued to press forward and were denied by an excellent double save from Lee Dempsey. Minutes later he could only watch as a long range shot struck the crossbar and away to safety. Kynog retook the lead in the 29th minute following a corner headed home by Luke Herbert.
The second half saw Edenderry equalise in the 32nd minute through Adam Mahon and in the 35th minute they took the lead after a cool finish from Tadgh Kane. Dylan Donohoe produced a vital tackle at the heart of the Kynog defence. The visitors extended their lead in the 48th minute after being awarded a penalty which Tadgh Kane converted.
Kynog to their credit responded with efforts from Conor Donoghue and Brian Mcgrath before the same player scored in the 53rd minute to set up a tremendous finish. Lee Dempsey stretched low to his right to keep out another Edenderry effort before the evenings scoring was completed by Alex Kenny in the 59th minute with a tremendous left footed strike.
Great credit must be given to both sets of players who produced such entertainment and the home team were best served by Lee Dempsey.

Under 12 Kynog United V kilcullen

Kynog utd 0  Kilcullen 2

Kilcullen made there first appearance of the season and fully deserved there 2-0 win over newly promoted Kynog utd. The match was played in summer like conditions with a strange yellow ball appearing in the sky for the whole match. Kynog started brightly and driven on by Brian Mc grath they attacked at will but Brandon O rouke in the kilcullen goal kept them out. Kilcullen has two lovely wingers in Peter Towny and Cian O sullivan but Gerry melia & David Dunne were playing great as Kynog wing backs . Joseph Kenny was put through by conor Donoghue after a long kick out from Lee dempsey and was unluck to see his shot flash wide. half time 0-0 and Kynog brought on Luke herbert who battled hard, Kilcullen now showed there class and Ross Couglan finally scord after 8 mins of the second half. Kilcullen quicky got a second through Des mann who played very well . Kynog kept going and classy Adam Lynch saw a lovely run just go wide. Kynog were well served by centre halfs Dylan Donoghue and Brian Elliott with Eoin Kelly adapting well to a new role in midfield

Under 11 Kynog United V Castle Villa

Kynog Utd         3 – 6     Castle Villa

On a very warm morning, this match would be decided in the periods just before and after half-time. Castle Villa opened brightly and pushed Kynog back from the kick-off and it took a couple of fine saves from Kynog keeper, Reece Winders, to keep the match level, before Kynog started to play themselves into it. With both teams now playing some fine football, a great move on the Kynog right saw Adam Toman release Adam Lynch and his low cross was coolly swept high into the net by Craig Harris. Castle Villa came back at Kynog and only some excellent defending from Kynog’s David Randles kept Castle Villa out, but they were not to be denied, and an excellent through ball was lifted over the onrushing keeper by Willie Murphy. With the game finely balanced, both teams were obviously feeling the heat and early pace as the game went into a lull, until a fine Gavin Keating goal put Villa in front. Kynog upped their game, and only a few minutes later, Glen Thorpe was pulled down in the penalty box after a mazy run, and dusted himself off to dispatch the penalty to put the teams level. With only a few minutes left in the first half, the game turned again as Gavin Keating got his second of the day after a strong run through the middle of the Kynog defence to send his team into the break with a slender lead.

Kynog were slow to start in the second half, and they paid heavily for it, as Ben Kelly put Villa two in front, followed by a thoroughly deserved third from Gavin Keating with only ten minutes of the second half gone. Kynog dragged themselves back into the game, and were unlucky to see an Adam Lynch shot drift wide. Castle Villa extended their lead further through Aaron Murphy, which seemed to spur Kynog to greater effort, and it was they who finished the stronger and got reward for their efforts as Adam Toman chased a lost cause into the corner and when the ball broke, Adam Lynch drove into the box and shot high into the net to complete the scoring of what was an entertaining match, played in great spirit by two teams who put everything into this match
