Kynog United V Kildare Town

Kynog Utd 1 - 6 Kildare Town

Kynog started slowly again this week and paid dearly for it. Under immediate pressure and playing into the strong wind, they found themselves a goal down as a corner was turned into the net by an unlucky defender. A second corner brought a second goal as Jason McDonough rose high to head home. Only minutes later Kynog found themselves four down as Conor Mulholland and then David Hickey fired home. Kynog's first half misery was complete as Brian O'Reilly fired a fifth home just before half-time.

Into the second-half, and this time it was Kildare who started slowly and within seconds of the restart, Kynog got onto the scoresheet through Adam Lynch. Kynog's heads were up now, and they went close through Craig Harris, Dylan Casey and Lynch as they were competing better in the middle of the pitch with Glen Thorpe winning a lot of ball. With Kynog pressing, they were always going to be short at the back, and David Hickey ran on to add Kildare's sixth as they ran out comfortable winners.

Kynog United V Arlington

Kynog Utd 2 - 2 Arlington

A misty morning in Timahoe saw a firecracker of a match between two evenly matched teams. Kynog started slowly and Arlington penned them back in their own half winning a series of corners without creating any clear cut chances. Just as Kynog were finding a foothold in the game, Arlington took the lead as Andrew Prendegast ran on to a through ball to finish. This was enough to spur Kynog on, and they roared into the game with Adam Lynch and Adam Toman both going close before Craig Harris slammed a loose ball into the net to bring Kynog level as they finished the first half on top.
The second half started as the first half finished with Kynog pressing and it was no surprise when they took the lead as Adam Lynch collected Mark Maguire's pass and ran on to drive a powerful shot home. Kynog looked to extend their lead and Lynch, Toman and Josh Harris were all unlucky not to add a third. With minutes to go, a mistake in the Kynog defence handed Evan O'Reilly the equaliser and neither team could find a winner as time ran out.

Kilcullen and Kynog u13 teams met for the first time this season and didn't disappoint the watching supporters, Kynog started the stronger with some fine passing and team play. The deadlock was broken when David Hayes crossed the ball for Evan Treacy to weave his way past the visitors defence and score from close range. The Kynog back line were standing strong with Dylan Herbert who was having a superb game for his team. Kynog were having a lot of possession and it wasn't long before the home team doubled their scoring with Brian McGrath on hand to slot in from a rebound. Ben Foran was winning and clearing all the high balls for the visitors. Kilcullen were testing Ross Maher in the Kynog goal and went close, but for some fine handling and defending from the home team. Under 15 Kynog united V Arlington

Saturday 07th March

U15 Division
Kynog United 0
Arlington Afc  4

Arlington eventually ran out comfortable winners in this encounter in Kynog Park last Saturday. The early exchanges saw the  visitors with a lot of possession in the middle of the park. The home team suffered a blow following a collision of heads which saw Cian Gilligan having to leave the field. The opening goal arrived in the 14th minute when a corner was only partially cleared and Thomas Brereton finished off the rebound. Kynog responded with Donal McGrath feeding the ball through for Conor Staines whose shot was well saved by Keith Keogh. Arlington doubled their advantage in the 27th minute when following another corner the ball broke for Keith Bracken who found the corner of the net. The home teams defence with Eoin O Reilly prominent and leading by example were now denying the Arlington forwards the space they were finding earlier. This filtered through to his other defenders Martin Baneham, Ciaron McMahon and Kevin O Brien who all deserve special mention. The second half saw the midfield area more evenly contested with Kynog always a threat on the break. As it looked like the home team might get something from the game a tremendous strike by Thomas Brereton that Blaine Treacy could only get a hand to sealed the victory. Then in the 73rd minute Ciaron McManus found space inside the Kynog penalty area to complete the days scoring. The home team were well served by Adrian Moran in midfield and the defenders already mentioned whilst for Arlington Keith Bracken excelled.

Under 8 Kynog United V Kilcullen

Kynog Utd 3 -2 Kilcullen

On a bright morning in Timahoe, a thrilling encounter was edged by Kynog. The opening exchanges were frantic but even, with both teams moving the ball quickly and tackles flying. Neither team could create a clear opening, with defenders, Sean Hanafey of Kynog and Sean Hurley of Kilcullen in excellent form. Moving into the second quarter, it took some excellent work from Shane O'Connor to unlock the Kilcullen defence, beating his man on the touchline to set up Ciaran Casey to finish well and give Kynog the lead. Kilcullen were also creating chances but just couldn't find the opening and after one of their attacks was broken up, Kynog broke quickly with Michael Cummins and Ciaran Casey setting up Joshua Lee to finish.

Into the second half and Kilcullen got themselves right back into the match as Darragh Kelly finished off a good move. Kilcullen were pressing for the equaliser moving into the last quarter and found themselves short at the back as Joshua Lee put Kynog two in front again. Kilcullen refused to give up and pushed Kynog back, scoring an excellent second through a powerful Evan Swan shot to set up a grandstand finish. With time running out, the match was end to end, as first Josh Harris brought a good save out of Kilcullen goalkeeper Jamie Buckley, and Justin Reilly cleared well under pressure for Kynog. In the end, Kynog shaded a very even and entertaining encounter that could have gone either way
