Under 17 Kynog V Moone Celtic

UNDER 17 CUP

KYNOG UNITED       3
MOONE CELTIC      0

Both teams served up a thoroughly entertaining cup tie last Saturday in Kynog Park. The visitors started the stronger with Mikey Wall prominent in midfield and the home defence had to be alert to deal with Moone as they threatened to take an early advantage. Kynog through Gavin Crowe produced a great cross from the left which Donal McGrath almost converted. Further efforts from Jason Ryan for the home team forced the visitors keeper to save. The home team opened the scoring shortly after when a fine passing move from the back found its way to Shane Merriman who found a yard of space inside the penalty area and curled his shot past Aidan Byrne in the Moone goal. The visitors were restricted to long range efforts for the remainder of the half which Blaine Treacy dealt comfortably with. The second half started with the visitors pushing forward but unable to break down a well organised home defence well marshalled by Stephen Byrne and Eoin O Reilly. From a Shane Merriman corner Evan Treacy saw his effort cleared off the Moone goal-line. Following the introduction of David Hayes Kynog doubled their advantage when a Shane Merriman effort hit the crossbar and Hayes was on hand to find the back of the net. Some 5 minutes later the days scoring was completed when a Jason Ryan pass and coolly finished off by David Hayes. The home team determined to keep a clean sheet showed great committment in the final 20 minutes with  both full backs Eoin Quinlan and Ciaron Baselmans excelling. Niall Hickey for Moone was a standout  player  with his defensive display while the whole Kynog squad can be proud of their efforts
